The main problem with this application is how poorly the controls for video playback and rewind work. Rewind seems to be a feature, but it is almost useless in practice, for instance, if you want to rewind 30 seconds or a minute to see a play that happened. On top of that trying to navigate the application is slow and doesn’t always work correctly. Finding the alternate feed when both the Astros and rockets are playing at the same time is a matter of luck. It’s also bad that it takes almost 20 seconds from when you first open the application to be able to show the live broadcast. And for some reason, it leaves these artifacts on the screen for another 10 seconds for no reason. It’s a very poor first attempt, especially when there are so many good applications for viewing sports such as major league baseball’s application. But they know they have no competition and have chosen not to strive for that level of performance.
VERY good product from SCHN with the way the NBA is making games harder and harder to watch it’s nice to have all the Houston rocket games here to watch especially considering we get the home casters every game and I might be biased but they are in my opinion some of the best home casters in the league who just love ball I love hearing their reactions to the home and away team good plays I’m excited and signed up already! Btw whoever at SCHN came up with this idea is 1. A genius and 2. My savior 😂
I believe that fans subscribing to their team’s apps is the future of viewing MLB and NBA games. Just not enough people willing to pay for cable these days. But these league’s gatekeeping streaming rights and insistence on tv contracts is why viewership is dropping. I say cut out the middle man. These leagues with tons of games should be selling their product directly to fans through an app, at a modest price, and collecting ad revenue (and data mining) directly. This app is kind of a half-step in that direction. My issues with this app are first, its appearance. Why not liven in up with some Rockets and Astros livery? Second, why can’t we watch games that have already been aired? $20/month is A LOT of money especially when they’re piling ad revenue on top of their end, we have to watch those ads despite paying so much, and of course only having access to live streams of the network. So, I will not be subscribing until they at least allow us to watch recent games that aren’t live, and skip through the ads when we do it. This app is an important step in an experiment to prove the way the NBA and MLB leagues dictate streaming rights is way behind the times. But if you guys make this too expensive and too lacking in features, you could set these leagues acceptance of the future back years.
