Technical Weather Forecast without the jargon

I am a weather geek with a physics degree. I understand the weaknesses and failure of weather apps that boil weather forecasts into a single digit or a range of probabilities. The Deep Weather app is unique. It boils all the technical information into a simple, easy to understand narrative that is spot on. In the past as we’ve travelled during the winter in the American West I’ve used the NWS twitter posts to understand the trends in upcoming weather. From now on I will check Deep Weather first before tackling the technical forecasts.

Best I’ve Found

I never watch or listen to the tv or radio “meteorologists”. All they seem to be capable of doing is talking about the computer models. They are like robots with no thinking skills of their own. It seemed that the days were gone of a meteorologist looking at pressure patterns, etc., and being able to come up with a 48 hour forecast from their own ability. Then I found this app! Yes, the models are mentioned, but the discussions goes beyond that and sometimes have a different prediction than the models. I love the the discussion of what front or dry line is sitting in a region and how that could shape the weather. I like a true meteorological discussion, not just, “There’s a chance of rain tomorrow “. Oh, and they put their name on their forecast and discussion. I suspect someone unable to critically think about meteorology would last too long here, unlike the tv folks that are more for entertainment than brains and accuracy. The app is free, but I paid for it, and will continue my yearly subscription as long as it remains “old school meteorology”. It’s actually the only app I’ve ever thought worthy of paying for! I’ll continue my yearly subscriptions as long as it keeps doing the same. I think the yearly and lifetime subscription fees are very reasonable for the product. I use this app for daily/weekly planning, but also for the aviation features. (It was the aviation feature that led me to discover the app.)

Love the app for AFDs, now with favorites option.

Update! Wow, that was fast! So easy now to toggle between my favorite NWS stations with the heart icon on the bottom toolbar. Thanks for the quick turnaround on that request. // My previous review: One of my go to first in the morning to read local NWS Area forecast discussion's. I have only three requests for hopefully future updates... The option to store favorite offices, push notifications when a new discussion is available for one of your favorites and maybe and option for the previous discussion from that office. Love the app. Clean and quick to load data on my iPhone and iPad.
