I have had Radar Omega for a couple of years and subscribe at the Alpha level. Opinions vary, but R/O was by far the best app in my opinion, surpassing my former favorite, RadarScope. RadarOmega has a lot of great features integrated into it including the ability to use it across any of your devices; dual pol advanced products, chaser video feeds, multiple fixed cameras and a matching desktop application that many apps like WeatherFront don't have. Anytime I have emailed a question about something, their meteorologist staff is always quick to reply with a comprehensive, thoughtful answer, so they obviously care a lot about their product. I don't know what's going on with the last several updates, but they have not made improvements that make any sense, and have actually made it harder to use. For one thing, the display font is tiny and difficult to read , no matter how you have your display settings configured on your iPhone; the satellite display map option has a gold tone to it, when compared to other, newer apps, and some of the overlays they have added just don't make sense, at least not to me. My subscription is up and I plan to drop to the lowest tier, while adding WeatherFront and WeatherWise to my options. I really hope that R/O gets their act together soon because I would love to continue to support their product.
I donโt normally write app reviews, but I felt compelled to after a recent interaction with support. If youโre familiar with radarscope it is very similar; this app is really catered to Meteorologists and weather enthusiasts, not your average person. I have had RadarOmega for a while now and have watched it improve into a beyond usable app that is threatening radarscopeโs spot on my app dock. Only a few months ago, the app was laggy and slow but now it runs much faster. There is a lot more customization and features that are free compared to other similar apps. I also think the subscription prices are very fair, if you buy any subscription you get free access to their Mac/Windows/Linux app. If I had one critique of the app it is that it still doesnโt feel 100% fluid and I do not like the transition when going in and out of the menu it feels slow and dated. I will say if you ever have any issue their team will be more than willing to help you. I emailed about a feature and received a response within 5 minutes! That is very impressive! Overall, this app hasnโt quite earned radarscopeโs spot, but it very well could in the future.
This app blows RadarScope out of the water, and Iโve been using RS for about 8 years, ever since Moore in 2013. With RadarScopeโs base cost, you donโt get SPC products, special weather statements, METARs, or 30 frames of radar data. With RO, you get all that plus a road map that gets more detailed the more you zoom in, making this app preferential for chasers as we can now chase with only one app open. What really sets RadarOmega apart, however, isnโt the radar data. Itโs the satellite data that can be added for $5 a month. Keep in mind, all of this except satellite is included with the base cost of the app. So with all of this, itโs cheaper than RS coupled with AllisonHouse. Some things Iโd love to see added to the app to make it truly perfect are mesoanalysis, the ability to separate cities and roads to only render one invisible if so desired, METAR wind barbs, and the ability to log into Spotter Network to send reports and position information. If it werenโt for these features being absent, Iโd be getting rid of RadarScope tonight. Otherwise, this app truly goes above and beyond, and I canโt wait to try it on my iPad and Windows.
