The problem is this app isn’t sure what it is supposed to do. For example, the app can show you in depth players stats, games stats, field distribution stats — these are fun and cool but not used by a vast majority of average fan. The app fails to help you find the game on TV. It’s gotten better but it’s still not as good as it should be. The “replay game” button is terrible. It displays when the replay isn’t even available for replay. But the biggest issue is that the App launches you to webpage to watch NWSL+ games and all SmartTVs don’t support the App or web browser. You can’t use airplay or other casting tech to cast the game from your device to the TV either. This is huge. You have to connect other hardware to get around this and that is just unacceptable. A burgeoning fan isn’t going to spend time to do all this and they have many other entertainment options. Please collect requirements, design a great app to help promote the league, game, and players we love.
The latest big update worsened usability and the removed the functions I most users. The update may look shinier but you can no longer view the horizontal timeline view of goals, cards, and subs and overall it’s harder to actually read the timing of in-game events. You can’t see the timestamps of subs on the lineup view either. And when I click into a specific game there’s no way to click backwards to the full schedule view to see other games again (I have to click all around the app to reset to the original schedule video). In general, I find the new layouts to be worse for navigating the information I want. It feels like the new design wants to look more visual and “mobile friendly” but at the cost of functioning the way I actually use the app. All of that and now the required tracking, the update is a major downgrade that bums me out because I can no longer quickly follow gameplay the way I used to. It’s going to deter me from staying as up to date.
As an NWSL fan, would like nothing more than to have this app stay permanent on my iPhone. But the functionality is just not there, so have deleted it and will use other apps to get my NWSL content. The loading times for the content is very slow...you have to dig into the app to find basic information like TEAMS. You would think that would be one of the main buttons in the bottom global navigation bar. Once you find TEAMS and look at the roster, you would assume you would be able to click on a player to find bio information along with current and historical stats. You can’t even click on a player to find that information and worse...some players don’t even have a profile picture next to their names. In order for NWSL to grow, they have got to get the basics “right”. Not asking for too much as a fan right now...just give me: MATCH INFO / PLAYER NEWS / STANDINGS and I will be very happy. Let’s get to work, as the players are doing their part to play world class soccer and promote the game!
