This is a very handy app that allows you to monitor your Volta system. I can check on the status from my phone within Bluetooth range of my camper van. Where it really shines though is its remote connectivity ability. By taking a phone I no longer use and setting up the Volta app on it, it can then send data to the Cloud and that allows me to use the Volta app on my primary phone to check the status from anywhere I have Internet access. It requires an Internet connection in your RV so the local phone can relay the Volta data to the cloud.
As other reviewers have noted, the latest version (2.0.3) of the app crashes (or just stops displaying updated data, requiring a force-quit and relaunch) often. Interestingly: when the app crashes while on the “Live View” version of the Power Flow graph it appears to be just the UI thread that dies; the app seems to continue accumulating data for some time after the UI goes away, which you can see after relaunching. Even more oddly is that the data displayed doesn’t seem to exactly match what’s shown on the Volta’s physical display (I have a Flex); the Power Flow figures never match (which you might be able to explain away with “different update intervals”) and the Pack Temp (which changes much more slowly) can differ by up to 2 degrees F. It’s been a year since the last buggy/unstable version was released. Volta really needs to release a fixed stable version!
Love the cloud service feature so I can monitor power levels when we’re away from our rig (this is how it should work in theory). We leave an iPad plugged in with the app running and connected to Volta via Bluetooth. Cloud service recognizes the device for a few minutes. One the iPad, screen goes to “sleep”, causing Volta to no longer monitor via cloud. My suspicion is that this app is not running in the background as it should. Have checked the settings on iPad to make sure “allow background apps” is allowed. I see a recent developer response says it is fixed in 2.0.1, but unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to be the case. Would love a reliable way to monitor our power levels when away from our rig.
