Absolutely love the Mantis Laser Academy dry-fire training system. I’ve only had it for a couple weeks and have already spent many hours with it. Considering the ammo I’ve saved training this way, it’s probably almost paid for itself already. You’re obviously not going to simulate recoil but that’s not what this is about. You are practicing the draw, aiming, trigger finger technique, drills, etc. I even used the system to zero a red dot at home and and it worked great, getting perfect results at the range afterwards. Once my wife tried it, she liked it so much that she wanted her own LOL!! I would have given the App a full 5 stars but a couple of the courses/drills seem to be a little buggy and shut down the app unexpectedly while using. Obviously frustrating when you’re starting to get into it and have a rhythm going. Hopefully, the app developers will get that worked out so I can update this review with the full five stars. The app is great otherwise, so I’m fully confident they will work out these flaws in future updates!! Mantis Laser Academy is a must have in my opinion!!
This tool is amazing!! I was wanting more training with my Glock 43x bc it’s my EDC right now. I’m a bit sadden that no one provides a dry fire mag that can be used with the system, I would love to train with this without having to reset the pin. Never the less, while using this system, it would be great if we could create our own courses or drills. The drills that are provided are great, but more customization would be awesome. For example; I would great to have failure drills and reloading drills interwoven into a custom drill. That way while training it could utilize all factors that could happen in a training situation. Also, I would love it if we could get more sounds and also have the ability to reduce volume/remove sounds. The whistle is one of the annoying things I wish I could remove and keep other sounds while training. Great product, keep it up!
I have a MantisX motion detection trainer, along with their app. Great device, great training aid. I’ve helped training many folks on proper shooting technique etc. These devices really are revolutionary. So i bought the laser training academy full set up. The good. Very accurate detection of where the laser hits. Great drills included with the pro version. The bad. App records many, many many false shots. Have tried different lighting conditions and brightness to no avail. I’ve read that any movement of the device detecting the shots (Ipad, Iphone etc) can cause false shot detection. I’ve tried to ensure the ipad is as stable as possible. Also figured out that zooming in too close with the app causes or increases false shots. I’m still getting a bunch, so perhaps i need to try and stabilize the mount for my Ipad. Often cannot acquire the targets. I’ve got the targets sitting on my mantle against a mostly uncluttered background. The interior wall is painted red. I’m wondering if that is causing the target detection problems. I thought not enough light was the issue, but that does not seem to help. Could it be I’m too far away from the target? I typically have the Ipad set up about 3 meters from the target. Not sure if closer or further would help. It would be nice if the instruction manual gave more solutions to possible problems. Great concept, but full of problems so far. Given how great the MantisX3 has been I’m confident these issues will get sorted. The combination of the MantisX and the laser training academy could be a game changer in this day of expensive or non existent ammo, and fewer and fewer ranges to conduct live fire training. I’m optimistic that the drawbacks will be sorted. Let’s hope sooner rather than later.
