I've had this monitor and app for the last 3 years and the app is infuriating; it's been giving me the same issues the whole time we've had it. I do not recommend this product because it takes multiple attempts (if it even does work), to get a video to load that's been captured from detecting motion. It's only about a 7 second clip and not as long as it detects motion, or even just a little longer. It didn't even notify me or record when my daughter moved out of her bed to the floor, or when she got up this morning. Those instances are exactly the kind of thing I'd like to see recorded (and for longer than 7 seconds or until there's nothing else to record: no more motion) because I need to know if she's alright making those transitions. There's no way to save a video through the app except to screen record. Night mode would be a great feature. I put the filter on to see 7 days of video but it only keeps 2 days worth so that's frustrating. I start recording to catch a video and the sound shuts off every. single. time. So if I'm trying to catch a video quickly, I have to then tap the speaker button to turn the sound on again, and because I may be doing it in a rush, I miss the button or tap the screen and the button goes away, but I have to then tap the screen again to get the button to show back up, and I have missed many things because of this. It's so frustrating. I don't understand that. Why have the sound turn off when I start recording a video? I could not give this app a worse review. It's infuriating. I keep coming back to update my review because I've forgotten a few things until I encounter them.
I find it so strange that a company as large as vtech/leap frog would spend so little money to make sure their app functions properly. My main issue with the app is that event recordings will only load sporadically. The developer has responded to this here by having people reset their cameras. THIS IS NOT A CAMERA PROBLEM. It’s an app problem. The videos are being recorded they are just not loading to be viewed consistently. I know this because I will try clicking on the same one over and over and now and then I get lucky and it will load and can be viewed. Super frustrating when you’re trying to figure out what time your kid actually woke up or what happened that made them start crying. At the time of this review, according to Apple, it’s been a year since an update. Other apps regularly send bug fixes and updates. I don’t recommend this baby monitor to friends or family because of the app. It’s going to affect sales eventually if it hasn’t already. It makes absolutely no sense to not spend the money to fix the problems.
Used the Owlet camera/app for about two years. It was good but the app was buggy and camera quality was subpar. Bought this to try with my second child and the camera quality is really good. App has good functionality and after about a month, I have no big complaints other than the app cannot run in background. Which is absolutely absurd to me. With the Owlet, I could run the app on my phone and go out to work in the yard and hear my son in my headphones while listening to music etc. For this reason, the app is no better than the dedicated monitor, at least for my purposes. Maybe I am missing something but that should be a no-brainer, standard feature for a product like this.
