GoSatWatch is still my go-to app for satellite work on iOS devices. Primarily because it allows me to use customized Keplerian data and donโt charge for the ability to do so. Not only is the ham Kep data an extra charge, the feed is riddled with inactive satellites that should be purged from the list so I donโt have to be the one to filter everything out. Thereโs far better TLE resources available, but ISS Detector does a great job of ensuring you canโt use them. If that one change was made, Iโd easily raise my review to at least a 4 star - possibly 5 stars. But as for now, ISS Detector is a secondary resource. I wish I had better things to say. I wish the developer was more open about the data they allowed us to use. I hope the extra money we pay is making them happy. Itโs surely not being redirected into enhancing the product or adding new features. Just more of keeping the lights on. Take a look at what others are doing - especially GoSatWatch.
Filters are great to get a list of just what an amateur radio operator would want. Or for an ISS observer only interested in high striking passes. Or filter on the low to zero elevation passes if you like. Another source, or past experience, is needed to know which AMSATs are actually active. Lots of them are still on orbit but long since inactive. Once an Active list is made, a manageable list is produced. What is really nice is just the information an Amateur needs for field work. Details on the pass, ground track map, and the Modes, Uplink and Downlink frequencies come up with one click on the satellite of interest. More than that is far too much data unless already stationed at a ground base with computer tracking decoders...etc. Virtual reality will be interesting to test. I can see it being useful as a pointer. How to place the phone in an already equipment-busy setup is yet to be seen. As far as the screen closing, that is more of a Phone screen saver issue than the app. The phone will blank the screen on every app Iโve used unless you tap it every 30 seconds .
Hi. I am a Ham Radio operator and i have been using this great app for about a year to predict and work amateur satelites. The only frustrating part is that the app keeps closing while working the sats. Other than that it works great and it's my preferred app for the job. Working sats is a bit of a difficult task because you need both hands to hold the antenna and the radio. I suggest keeping it open while using to make it easier for the hams that use it. I hope you can do something about this situation and you will get 5stars. Thanks for your time. KN4NZB Also P41E
