RepeaterBook

After years of struggling through cumbersome written repeater guides to find machines in a given area, I happened to hear the author of Repeater Book in an interview on my favorite HR podcast and the rest, as they say, is history. What an incredibly powerful yet easy-to-use resource, and free. I do donate occasionally and urge others to do the same. This app is a obviously a labor of love in service of our great hobby and nowhere close to being a get-rich plan. My hat’s off to Repeater Book and its creator.

I find that repeaters are often missing important information that is available on the website. I understand that this app has been optimized for offline use (fantastic) but this lack of information is inconsistent. Some repeaters are well documented online but poorly in the app. Missing information like EchoLink # and DMR settings. But others are fantastically documented. To the developers I would suggest defaulting to the website and using the database as a backup. Or providing a link on to the website on the repeater info page. I really appreciate the simplicity in searching. I wish the repeater book website were this simple! I want to keep my review focused on the app. Your website is hard to search but has fantastic data! Your app has incomplete data but has amazing and fast search! you have a winning combo here. But this falls a bit too short. Edit: +1 star for not collecting data and using location only when using the app.

This is a must have for any HAM. You can use this app anywhere in the country to find a repeater near you. Set the range out further for a road trip and find the repeaters in your direction of travel. The information is very accurate. This is a great way to meet new people and work repeaters around the country. It’s good for your local area too. Maybe you were not aware that someone had a 10 meter repeater not too far from you. Share the app with other people so they can enjoy it as much as you will!
