I completely understand why any parent would want to get this app for their child. Of course you want to keep them safe from the dangers of the internet and restrict their exposure to screens. But there is definitely a very fine line between protecting your child and invading their privacy. If you really want to keep your child’s internet usage in check and make sure they are not getting into anything bad, just occasionally check their phone and don’t tell them you did. Teach them what is right and wrong, and what can be bad and dangerous. By downloading apps like these you are sending the message to your child that you don’t trust them and that creates a rip in your relationship. Parents must understand that kids have grown up with technology and the internet, and hiding that away is just keeping your child from the real world and separating them from their peers. Don’t doubt your child’s judgment, or they will doubt yours!! Don’t teach them that they cannot be curious and not trust you!! The internet is not inherently bad, although it is normal to be worried. Instead of downloading trust breaking apps like this, mentor your child. Show them that you want them to be cautious of predators and pornography, but do not show them that you don’t trust them. This app functions great and the intentions it has are healthy and normal, but breaking your child’s trust will destroy your relationship and lower your child’s self esteem.
