SmartGym: Gym & Home Workouts

I bought the year subscription for 60 dollars when it went on sale. I used to use the free version of an app called Strongr Fastr, and switched to smart gym due to the Apple Watch integration and seemingly smarter program. I have been throughly disappointed. The skill levels do not mean anything. All it does is give you more complicated and sometimes dangerous excersizes just because you’re “advanced”. The app seems to hate the basic core excersizes. The routines have no rhyme or reason to them, no logical splits except for the premade routines. The smart trainer gives you completly random sets of excersizes and does not create supersets. This app requires too much fiddling on my side, and I personally think the competing app I used to use was better in terms of workout creation, despite not having Apple Watch integration. Honestly this app spends too much time looking fancy instead of having an actual “smart” trainer. I know this sounds really negative compared to the other reviews, but it’s what I’ve seen based on my experience and words from experienced fitness friends who looked at the app with me. I am going to stick with the app for now primarily because I bought the one year subscription but also because I believe this app CAN do better with even just one good update. It pretty much comes down to the AI behind the smart trainer needing to be smarter. If I didn’t have people helping me who knew what they were doing, this app would be way too complicated for a true beginner and could result in an injury.

I used to play on all sorts of sports team, and every summer I would do conditioning so training became something I enjoyed. But recently I experienced some health issues where I lost all my muscle and have had to start over. It’s made in incredibly uncomfortable for me to go to the gym because I’m really embarrassed. So I was looking for something that could give me different exercises to do at home, with limited equipment. I was tired of my own routines and I needed a fresh take. All the research online overwhelmed me. So I decided to check this app out and holy moly, was it perfect! There are still some basic grammatical errors and some features that I think will need work (can only link it to an Apple Watch, I don’t see how many calories I burned in a workout in the history tab, etc). Overall, I’m thrilled. It’s got me motivated and feeling great. I can see my muscle building back up slowly and I love that I can set the amount of time and which days I want to work out and rest on. Thank you so much Smart Gym! Hopefully one day I’ll be brave enough to go to the gym in person, but for now, I’m going to use Smart Gym!
