Diamond: Baseball Stats

I wanna start off by talking about the positives, cause there’s a lot of them. This app is the most comprehensive app for college baseball on the planet. It does what ESPN can’t, or rather, won’t do…it has live constantly updating college baseball scores and access to actual box scores. There’s so many different ways to view scores, find player stats easy, check standings, and more. There’s even college baseball fantasy team games. It’s everything a college baseball fan could think of. So why the one star review? Pricing. Charging for advanced stats and super advanced features is reasonable and expected, getting access to stats is very expensive contrary to popular belief, but not having a monthly option is criminal. $50 or $100 is a lot of money to upfront. People are willing to pay $50 over five months but not pay $50 at once for a five month subscription, it’s the same price…different perception to the bank account. Additionally, there’s a $30 option that has basic customization features behind a paywall. Adjusting the scoreboard shouldn’t be a premium feature, and adding removing watermarks from sharable cards like it’s a big deal to make it look like more than you actually get for $30 feels kinda low. Making minor adjustments to the layout is not expensive from an operational standpoint, and doesn’t require buying any advanced database access, so making people pay for basic customization feels kinda sleezy. If you don’t mind having nothing be customizable but actually want to see all the scores and box scores in one place, it’s still a great app…I just can’t rate it higher as long as pricing is the way it is, especially with what is behind the various walls. And again, I’m not saying that $100 for super advanced sicko level stats is unreasonable for the cost of including them, it totally is, but some of the basic usability features that have nothing to do with actual baseball shouldn’t be paywalled for people and there should absolutely be monthly options, even if for perception purposes.

As a fan of college baseball since my time at university, this app has it all. From the ease of accessing and viewing team records, players, and schedules to viewing box scores and tracking games, it is all what you need. The app still is growing and learning to adapt itself to its user base and gives us fans another way to follow games not necessarily we aren’t interested in but with the Diamond mode building teams and competing with others, it’s a blast and collector’s dream. Being able as well to create and log your own college baseball standings and view them versus other users is also a nice touch. A must have!

It finally feels like college baseball has a platform that matches the energy of the sport. What makes this even more impressive is the developer. You can tell there’s real passion behind this. He’s actively working with the college baseball community through his Discord, constantly refining and improving the app based on real feedback. That kind of commitment is rare—and it shows.
