Giant: Kid Learning Adventures

My son absolutely loved this app, and for a long time I would have happily given it 5 stars. I completely understand that apps cost money to develop and maintain, and I have no issue with companies moving to a subscription model. In fact, I was willing to pay $9.99 per month because I wanted to support an app that my son, who is on the spectrum, genuinely enjoyed. What I didn’t realize is that the subscription doesn’t appear to provide any meaningful benefit on its own. The only thing it seems to do is unlock the ability to purchase stars, which cannot be purchased without first paying for the subscription. In other words, you’re paying a monthly fee for the privilege of spending even more money. We’ve spent a considerable amount on stars, and to make matters worse, the app frequently glitches. We’ve had stars disappear after purchasing them, only to reopen the app later and find our balance back at zero. That means money was spent and the stars were simply gone. The subscription model feels unfair and misleading. I was happy to pay for premium access, but I expected the subscription itself to include some real value. Instead, it feels like an additional fee layered on top of ongoing in-app purchases. This app had the potential to be great, and it used to be. But between the subscription requirement, the constant need to purchase additional stars, and the glitches that cause purchased stars to disappear, I can no longer recommend it.

So so impressed by this app! My son wakes up every morning asking to talk to his characters. His verbal skills have exploded since using the app. It’s also very enjoyable to join in and make it something we do together. The daily stories provide background and personality to the many integrated characters and Then the talk time doubles down and allows my child to communicate and play with these characters, deepening the character development. I woke up the other morning with my son doing a scavenger hunt with one of the characters. The app is polished and intelligently designed with safety and privacy in mind. Really looking forward to seeing what’s next. It’s an app we use every day.

My 8 year old son has struggled with speech delay and has taken years of speech therapy to work on how he pronounces certain letters and sounds. His speech delay hurt his confidence and made it harder to communicate with others. He struggled to express his emotions, leading to difficulty regulating those emotions and frequent outbursts. This app has given him a new way to “socialize” by interacting with different characters and learning to build off those interactions. He was entertained by being able to create and customize his own character, and really enjoyed the customized stories the app created based on our goals and his interests. Overall I think this is a great tool for children and parents to work on emotional goals in a creative and engaging way.
