My news years resolution was to get away from social media and now when I pick up my phone I just want to see what visitors came to my feeders! This app doesn’t force you to watch other people’s videos. Their is a social feed that you can click on and share your videos and see others. If you don’t want to see others then don’t click on the feed. The one thing I wish you could do when viewing live to be able to view more than one feeder; I have a bird and hummingbird feeder and when I’m at work I have my phone set up to one feeder or the other sitting on my desk.
never had problems with this app. i read a review saying it “forces you to look at other peoples bird feeders” and this just isn’t true. there is an explore page specifically for looking at others bird clips that they share. you can click off of the tab easily, no one forces you to look at them. i don’t have a vip subscription and i have no problems using the app without it. it is completely functional without having a vip subscription. some people seem sour on the reviews, it really is a good app.
The most important thing to know is that when this app goes away, your birdfeeder is just a birdfeeder. This app is not about your bird watching experience. It is all about forcing you to watch other people’s birds (Seriously! The start page is always some randos feeder not your own!). It buries the ability to save recordings to the built in chip defaulting (and not able to change) to using their “cloud” which is only free at the start. To navigate this app is like an adventure in a labyrinthian maze with ever exit leading to “you must be a VIP”. The primary reason I bought this was for the “free” AI. That is implemented by giving you a multiple choice answer! And if you choose wrong? A: You never know because it doesn’t tell you. B: You can’t change your answer unless you are a VIP! I could suffer through this, maybe, but the worst offense is that when a notification of movement comes in can you get to a live view? No it only shows you a brief recording (and it is very brief, even if you are using your SD card). To see it live you have to navigate to other pages, then wait 15seconds to connect. This is a terrible app that locks down most features unless you buy into their ecosystem. They make using it locally with your own SD card nearly impossible.
