I've been using Crew for about 2 months and it's almost everything I ever wanted in a banking app. First, it offers a competitive interest rate on a CHECKING account which is like unheard of. I love the pockets and the ability to assign custom rules so I can easily send money to my pockets before I'm even tempted to spend it. The feature to assign transactions to specific pockets is also a game changer (I haven't ordered a debit card yet but you can also assign IRL transactions to specific pockets with the card). My only complaints so far are 1) I had a bit of trouble setting up my direct deposit. This is likely less of a Crew issue and more just that they partner with a small bank. But the team is incredibly responsive (I sent an email and the CEO responded). 2) The Autopilot feature isn't quite there yet. I love it in theory. The reserve is a great feature and the ability to easily track monthly income, spending, pockets/savings, and surplus is very helpful. My main complaint is the "Upcoming Payments" section is not intuitive at all. For example, I had it set to send $200/month to my Car Insurance pocket every 2 weeks (on payday). I would expect the Upcoming Payments to list out those biweekly transfers (the day of the transfer, how much is being transferred into the pocket, and where it's coming from). Instead it lists one transfer for ~$91 and just says the plan is "on track" by a specified date. I get that that $91 doesn't equal $200/2 because sometime times there are 3 paychecks a month. I also get that it might not just pull a set dollar amount from every paycheck to leave as much spending money upfront as possible. I appreciate those features and would like to continue to use them but I can't if I use the alternative and set up a custom Payday Routine rule to transfer a set amount every paycheck. But as a user, I would like to be able to track and anticipate when and where the autopilot transfers to my pockets are coming from instead of relying on this black box "on track" message.
You know how you could do physical individual envelopes for saving/budgeting? Crew is an amazing electronic way to do that, BUT 10X BETTER! This company / app is SIMPLE! I don’t use it for family use but that is an option. I use it for all of my savings / budget / spending “pockets” (Crew’s version of vaults, buckets, or envelopes). Best parts? You get a debit card that has a tap feature and optional mobile wallet. You can SELECT which pocket you want it to pull money from when using the debit card. You have settings to edit what that card does when after a transaction. It’s sooo user friendly and honestly I wouldn’t change ANYTHING about this app. I NEVER leave app reviews but this one is top notch and everyone should at least try it!
I cannot recommend Crew Finance enough!! This app has it all and then some. I love the automation features like we automate our paycheck to have 90% immediately go into savings, 5% to 2 different savings pockets, (our emergency fund pocket, and holiday/birthday pocket) You set whatever automation you want up and can add different rules it’s great! The kids checking accounts as well as the allowance feature you can set up is also amazing! I love how the kids also have a savings account. The support oh my goodness the support if you should ever need them are always so quick to respond and always so helpful.i can’t brag about the support of this company enough. You can now also create single use virtual cards and other types of virtual cards in the app, you can create pockets also within your checking account and point your card to have certain transaction go strictly for that pocket, now that’s my favorite feature and I haven’t even listed every feature yet that’s how many great features come with the app. Do yourself a favor and seriously download and use it, you won’t be disappointed I promise.
