Russian by Nemo

I've been spending a lot of time with my uncle lately, and his mother in law is Russian. Every time I see her, we can not communicate very well because I speak English, and she speaks Russian. I downloaded this app to learn simple words like hello, goodbye, your welcome, thank you, etc. I have not been back to his house since starting this app, but will be in a few weeks. I know way more than I expected to learn in such little time. This app has made it so much easier for me to memorize words and phrases. I highly recommend.

I started using the app about a week ago, and I am already able to say normal things to my Russian coworkers, such as thank you, hi, you're welcome, bye, good morning, etc. The app dives into essential vocabulary and speaks the words in both English and Russian, making it easy to remember. I like that I can hit Play and repeat as much as I want. I gave it a 4 star rating though, because some of the words are incorrect (for example, in English, St. Petersburg is pronounced "Street Petersburg") and the initial Russian words given are too formal to be used in everyday conversation. I got some funny looks when I greeted my coworkers with hello, which, with the Russian word I used, was the equivalent of saying, "Good day to you!" It would have been better to learn to say "Hi" first. But overall it is a good app and I'm learning Russian.

I am pleasantly surprised by the app's ease of use. If you want to learn Russian or dust off your skills, you'll be happy with this purchase. I highly recommend it! I also use Duolingo to learn languages, but I prefer this app's vocabulary experience. Great app! My suggestions for the developers include a) modernizing the UX/UI, b) adding a section on grammar (possibly sentences where the student must fill in the blank for word endings), and c) allow the student to take a placement test when they first sign into the app as well as along the way to ensure the lessons are consistent with their level of comprehension.
