Reviews: What People Think About Nightstand Central Alarm Clock

Rating: 4/5
My initial review was in January 2015 after only 30-days of use, and I liked it then, and I still like it now. My only complaint at that time was it struggled with changing orientations on the iPhone 5S. Since the advent of the larger iPhone Plus, landscape mode is no longer necessary to get a decent view. It's quite attractive when mounted on a vertical stand whereby I can set revolving screen savers every so often. I also like the ability to swipe my finger up or down to adjust the brightness. I can set it low enough while still being able to read it but not so bright to annoy me when I'm trying to sleep. Unfortunately, while it's active, it seems to cancel out the iPhone's 'Do Not Disturb' setting and for light sleepers, this can be a problem. Either I become used to it, or I just don't receive very many notices throughout the night, so I still use it. Also, it occasionally turns off during the evening. Occasionally I wake up and observe the screen is off. Again, perhaps the 'Do Not Disturb' setting is somehow canceled and returns the iPhone back to normal automatic sleep mode. So, after a year and 10-months, I still can't raise my rating above four.

I like all the features on this application. What I really don’t like is that it doesn’t work in the background like the alarm clock that comes with my phone. If I have to remember to open the application every night before I go to sleep then I run the risk of forgetting to “Turn On My Alarm.” My anxiety is so high while I sleep because of this. It causes me to have a terrible nights sleep. I’m not sure that using this alarm is worth it. I would use the alarm on my phone but it doesn’t have the fade in feature. I can’t stand being scared awake in the morning. This was the selling point for me choosing this application. At this point I’m not sure which is worse. Being scared awake or having a terrible nights sleep. I would also like the application to override my lock screen with having to program the application to not allow my phone to go into lock. I don’t like having my phone on all night using unnecessary power. I also don’t like the unnecessary light being generated by my phone. I prefer a dark bedroom. It would be better if the application overrode the lock screen when the alarm goes off so all I have to do is put the stop button to shut off the alarm or turn on the snooze. Right now if I don’t tell the application to stay on all night I have to unlock my phone to be able to get to these options.

UPDATED UPDATE: Thomas and his team have worked tirelessly to make the app work again despite iOS 11 being difficult to work with. I have use the app reliably now for over a week. I trust this app that wake me up every day and it is amazing. I especially appreciate the feature that makes the app gently increase volume so I am not jarred out of bed. Thank you Thomas. UPDATE: The app still does not work even after the recent bug fix. Exact same issues, alarm does not go off. You receive a text notification that your alarm is “Sounding” but there is no audible alarm. I have tried every conceivable fix... volume control, changing the alarms from music to tone, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, resetting my iPhone etc. Bottom line is that this app (which used to be wonderful) absolutely positively does not work with the latest iOS. Unless and until these issues are resolved you will literally be throwing your money away. To be fair, every other alarm app seems to be having the same problems. Clearly Apple isn’t helping the developers of these apps. Not to pile on, but I feel compelled to agree with other users. This was my favorite app for over a year. I used it daily. My only criticism is that you had to have the app in the foreground for it to work, but other than that it was flawless. Since iOS 11 it literally does not work. Do not purchase this app until they have fixed this issue. You will be wasting your money.
