What would be an interesting real life exploration and cycling app is now simply a Zwift aggregator. So many amazing and challenging climbs ignored by the devs. No obvious guidance on their selection process. No updates on submitted climbs. What’s the point of this app anyway?
Suggesting local climbs and hooks into Strava makes this a worthwhile app. The ability to add stories/descriptions make it helpful when route planning.
iCols is a well designed app and has an impressive database of climbs (cols) mostly in Europe. It's a unique resource in that regard. I fear, however, that the app has stagnated, having not been updated since the end of 2009. It is definitely in need of some work in the following areas: - Update for iOS4 to take advantage of backgrounding/fast app switching. Currently it just restarts upon return to foreground :( - Higher resolution icon and graphics for the iPhone 4 retina display. - Integrate with social networks. Would be cool to share cols/routes I'm looking at with Facebook or Twitter. - Crowdsourcing! Add a user submitted section so that iCols users can add new climbs to the database via app or website. - Offline mode. iCols will simply not function without a network connection. Being able to save climbs for offline use just makes sense.
