Debbie - Payoff, Save, Earn

I really appreciate that Debbie works to meet people where we are when it comes to finances. It is simple, visually appealing, and has a compassionate tone throughout the app. The weekly courses allow me to learn more about what I might already know, reinforcing healthy habits, while also adding in new perspectives or updated understandings around personal finance. I value that it isn't possible to just power through all of the courses all at once. We move forward step by step, not in a race! There are also points earned simply for reaching goals in saving and paying down debt. And those points do turn into real money that I can put back into my savings or toward debt. I love Debbie!

I’ve been using Debbie for a little over a year (I found out about it before it was officially released and was included in beta testing) and I have to say it’s great! There’s lessons and quizzes on finances to earn rewards. Once you reach $50 in rewards you can cash it out. So far I’ve cashed out twice and am very close to my third cash out. It helps me track my debt pay down and savings with goals for each for each month. It’s really awesome. I also just unlocked their rate crusher and got a personal loan to pay off my credit cards at an interest rate that was 10% less than my lowest cc rate so I’ll be able to pay that debt off faster! They used to have features in beta testing where you’d earn extra rewards for making an extra payment on your credit card or adding extra money to your savings. I wish they would bring those back, at least sporadically. Since using Debbie my overall debt has decreased and credit score has increased! All in all it’s a great app.

This app is a stunning contribution to society that would it have been introduced to me at some earlier point would’ve really set me on a great financial path. The gamification of something boring like debt payoff is a powerful tool to being debt free. I’ve already paid more than I normally would’ve, and not any amounts they would ruin me but definitely more contributions that I otherwise would’ve. Not to mention the weekly pathways go through the ins and out of money from basic things like saving emergency funds, the psychology behind money, and even ways to increase income. I look forward to doing these because it keeps me thinking about money in a healthy way and continuously learning about it which considering how much our lives revolve around money, we don’t do enough. Lastly, the amounts listed in the pathways for rewards are legitimate and are absolutely free! Keep diligent in the pathways, really try on the quizzes afterward, and paying of your debt on schedule and you will actually EARN money! I’m really blown away by the good natured people that decided to build a platform like this. I couldn’t give a high enough rating and the App Store could use about 100 more apps with as benevolent intentions as this. Hats off to the creators and everyone who works on this team for creating such a great product.
