I wouldn’t get this app unless you want to pay $7.99 per WEEK for a food tracking app. The app waits for you to submit all your personal information, and then lets you know that your only option to use this app is to start a 3 Day Free Trial, and then $7.99 a week following. In the ‘fine print’ it also specifies that you much cancel this forced 3 day trial at least 24 hours prior to the end of your trial. So basically, you actually have a 48 hour free trial. There’s no way that they don’t pay for those AI bots that leave fake reviews to boost their ratings. I can’t convince myself that this app has actually been given a real overall 4 star rating. They would get a lot more long term users if they offered a free version. I do like the design and functionality of this app. But I’m not going to pay over $30 a month for this app when there’s plenty more affordable (and even free) options that offer the same features in a different style. I would rather take the time to monitor my progress, weight, and nutrients/cal intake on pencil and paper before I would pay $30 a month for this product. This company seems greedy and untrustworthy. I was immediately turned off by it, canceled the forced trial, and deleted the app. I know that it was likely some ‘big-wig’ in the company that decided on the price of the subscription. But to the average consumer, 30 something dollars every month for this subscription and what it offers is quite hefty. Yikes !
I wanted to try out this tracker to see if there was a cheaper alternative to the $20 a month My Fitness Pal app. I wish I never switched, but I got roped into a year long subscription with this app. I meal prep weekly. One feature I like in My Fitness Pal is that when you enter in all the ingredients you use in a recipe, it factors the macros automatically according to the number of servings you enter for that recipe. This app does NOT do this. In this app, you enter in your recipe and then there is no way to enter in the number of servings for the app to automatically factor the macros for a serving of said recipe. If you put say, your overnight oats recipe that makes 4 serving under your breakfast, it just puts all 4 servings there. And you can’t just put that you ate 1/4 of that recipe because they only allow 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 quantities. No .25, which is crazy to me. So then, you have to take out your calculator, pull up the recipe, and do the math on all your macros per serving yourself and then MANUALLY enter in the meal. I’m only 1 meal into my prep and this app has already made it more difficult than it should be.
I’ve been in the search for a food tracker that is simple, good looking and flexible enough to be useful for every day food tracking. I’ve been using this app for over a week and it fits all my needs! I love that you can create custom foods, favorite foods and search from the huge FatSecret database. The barcode scanner works great. The UI is very polished and simple. At first I was confused by the inability to edit a custom food until I accidentally discovered the swipe action to edit. If I have one suggestion, it would be to surface actions like edit in the UI to make them more obvious. Thank you for making an excellent app and keep up the hard work maintaining it!
