NeuralCam Aperture

Excellent app. One of the few that I have a paid subscription to, and a worthy replacement for the old CortexCam. A couple of things that need to be fixed in order to make it perfect. 1) Most default settings persist, but the AI Upscaling setting does not. Please allow eg 48mp upscaling to persist across sessions. 2) on iPhone16, we still only see 0.5x, 1x and 5x cameras. There is a 2x that is missing - pls add. 3) The app does not automatically switch to macro mode at close range unlike the default camera; you have to manually select macro mode. Pls make this automatic (or at least an option for that to be auto), 4) the macro mode isn’t actually macro mode, all it appears to do is “zoom” the 1x lens. With the true macro mode on the default camera you can hold the phone an inch away from the subject and it will focus at super close range. You can’t do that with the “macro” option on NeuralCam. Pls fix that. Beyond that - the app takes incredible photos and the AI features such as brightening are tremendous. Love it.

I am a professional photographer, and, even though I prefer to shoot with a DSLR, I usually find myself using my phone to take photos when I’m on the go. I have tried many camera apps for iPhone, but NeuralCam is exactly what I was looking for: a powerful, smart, app with a simple UI. Not only is NeuralCam’s night mode incredible, its “ai upscaling” to 48 megapixels and NeuralHDR is magic. While Apple phones naturally capture detailed images, I find it is not enough when editing and cropping. With NeuralCam, the amount of added detail and dynamic range is incredible. Take a photo of the same object with the stock camera app and then with NeuralCam—it’s easy to see what a difference this app makes. Now for the issues: after you take an image, the entire screen is filled with a “processing” animation for five or so seconds (longer if you’re shooting in TIFF, which is what I normally use), and you are unable to take any new photos until the app is finished processing. This is frustrating, as it makes it impossible to take pictures of any moving objects. Furthermore, it would be nice to be able to adjust the exposure directly on the screen, like the native Apple camera app, as I’ve found many of my images end up overexposed or blown out in areas. Also, I’d love to see the option to shoot in RAW like other apps. In conclusion, this is a phenomenal app for anyone looking to “upgrade” their phone’s camera and capture exquisite pictures. I can’t wait to see what the developers have in store for the future ;)

Kudos to the people who created this — I really appreciate the technology and efforts that went into making this. I think the user experience could use some polish. First, after taking a picture, the entire app is blocked by a loading indicator that says “Processing” — perhaps this can be done in the background? At the very least, continuing to show the live viewfinder would be nice. Blocking the entire experience for 5+ seconds after every shot feels like a very choppy picture-taking experience. Second, as someone who doesn’t use Instagram, the dedicated button in the in-app gallery is just extra noise. It seems redundant given that there’s a share button right next to it (and maybe this could be changed to the generic iOS share icon, rather than a “reply” icon). Additionally, one thing that irks me is the extremely vague privacy policy. It’s very ambiguous and not clear what data of mine is being stored (which hopefully, is none). That being said, this really is a great app, congratulations to the creators of it!
