I like it!

I really like the design, concept and feel of this app and I was pointed to it by the WWF My Footprint app which is definitely worth checking out too. It allows you to see the environmental and health benefits of the food stuffs you buy which is very appealing to me as 99% of the time I have little faith in branding and marketing to relay the truth to consumers. The alternative products list is a great feature too showing products in the same food category but with additional benefits. FOR DEVS. If I could make a small suggestion… having the ability to copy the name of these alternatives products and paste into a search browser (Ecosia of course) would make it easier to then find where these items are sold an at what cost, having to flick from app to browser is a little cumbersome.

Notifications: not cool

The app itself has potential - although a lot of products are missing and I’m not sure about the ratings system. However my low score is that this is yet another app which sends pointless notifications. At 12 minutes past midnight: “concerned about something in your cupboards?”. No, I’m not. I appreciate notifications can be turned off, but this is a manual step that shouldn’t have to be taken. In an age where every app is trying to grab our attention, notifications like this which serve no other purpose are bad design, unethical, and show zero respect for users’ time and well-being. Not cool.

Brilliant app for sustainable living!

Giki is excellent for making better and more sustainable choices for food, cleaning products, cosmetics, and toiletries. I love how it suggests better options, and I can’t believe the ratings of some of my products at home! I’m going to phase a lot of things out, and replace them with higher scoring alternatives. It’s addictive!! Would be good if they keep adding products from more brands and supermarkets but you can add things yourself and help others out.
