I haven’t had issues with other app notifications, just this one. It will sometimes remind me to check in, sometimes not.
I’ve added a persistent reminder on my Lock Screen so I don’t forget to check in.

The app works perfectly. The only thing missing is a built in messaging function. Add that and call it a day.
