These lights will not connect to my phone, no matter what I have tried. I reached out to customer service via their email form and Iโve had two interactions with them in which theyโre telling me to do the same thing that I showed them wasnโt working in my prior email. Iโm so angry that Iโve been a user of Twinkly lights for two years and now that Iโve bought a new light set to Group to Christmas tree the new set will not interact with my app and my home Wi-Fi. So basically now I have overpriced lights on my tree one program since I canโt get the sets to group together, and manually controlling the new set is very very time-consuming. Iโll be sending this new set back and looking for a new company which makes me so sad that I think itโs just an app issue but no one can give me a phone call or a quick resolution. If the light set is bad, Iโll never know because Iโm not spending the money to try a new set! Buyer beware try to add them app before putting them on your tree so the return process would be much more simple.
My parents bought a pre lit tree for Christmas this year and have been waiting years to be able to afford one. And it required this app to control the lights. They were having problems setting up the tree so they asked me to help. When I installed the app my first concern is it wanted to know my exact location. Then it wanted to connect via Bluetooth, and let me know there was 50 Bluetooth devices it saw. Red flags went up. It gave me the option to connect via trees WiFi or the house Wi-Fi. Saying the house WiFi was more secure and it wanted to know the exact name of the house WiFi and then wanted to save the password. Not feeling comfortable with all the insane data collection for a tree, we opted to use the tree WiFi which had weak security. And default password. Judging from the comments on here we had similar problems connecting with the tree and the invasion of privacy is ridiculous for a tree. If youโre reading this then you probably are in the same boat. Total scam with questionable data collection by this app. Needless to say we never were able to connect to the tree. My mom was super upset and is seeking to return the tree for one that doesnโt require an app or all this data collection. All we can use is the default colors that are on the Bluetooth box. Ruined Thanksgiving and Christmas. I guess paying more doesnโt always get you better quality.
Last year I bought 4 sets of twinkly lights for holiday decorations, and had them up for roughly 3 months. This year when I went to put them back up for the holidays, one set was completely dead. Thankfully it was just inside the 1 year warranty and was replaced. Another set died a few weeks later, and since it was just over the warranty period, I was out of luck, and twinkly refused to replace it. While I understand that a 1 year warranty is fairly standard, the fact that I only got 3 months of use from the product before it failed is frustrating. Additionally, having half of the 4 sets I purchased fail in such a short time means that I wonโt be adding any more of this product to my home as I had originally planned. In addition to the issue above, twinkly support actually told me โwe are just a brand, you bought it from a retailer and itโs their job to replace it for youโ. Which isโฆ nonsense. This is YOUR product, you should stand behind it. Trying to push responsibility on the retailer is absurd. I wonโt be purchasing any more of these lights, and Iโll recommend my friends donโt either. Throwing away a $200 purchase after just a few months of use is ridiculous. In response to the developer response: Iโm not asking you to honor replacement outside of warranty. Iโm asking you to make a product that last longer than 3 months of use. That seems fair.
