As someone who orders Gong Cha every night for the past four years, the transition to the new Gong Cha app has been a complete failure and has ruined almost every aspect of what made the previous app convenient. The loyalty system is now stupidly restrictive. You can no longer use your points the way you could before, and I was even advised by a staff member that points can only be redeemed in multiples of five and cannot be used to cover an odd amount or the full value of an order. That makes the loyalty program far less useful. Even worse, the app doesn’t tell you when a store is closed. I’ve travelled to a store because the app showed it as open, accepted my payment, and indicated that my order was being prepared, only for me to find out that the store was actually closed. An app taking your money and processing an order for a closed store is stupid. The removal of the reorder function is another major downgrade. If you’re someone who orders the same drink regularly— every day or not—you now have to manually enter every single detail of the order every time. There is no reason to remove such a basic convenience. Apple Wallet/payment functionality is incredibly unreliable. It seems to work only after cancelling the payment multiple times, trying another card, or restarting the app. This feels less like an improvement for customers and more like an app redesigned around making Gong Cha’s POS systems easier to manage, while pushing all the inconvenience onto the customer. The previous app was perfect, and this new one has messed up every stage of the process.
Let us be able to use the wallet version or convert the card in app to wallet version. I was lucky enough to convert my old membership over but opening the app every time seem so tedious. At this point, taking a screenshot of the barcode is far better than using the app. Easier to access than a slow loading app.
As someone who drinks at least one bubble tea a day this app is horrendous, has lost me money and is incapable of the basic functions the card has. It would not transfer my old membership losing my accumulated points, takes too long to load a card that was always just available in my Apple wallet, has caused frustration for the poor employees at my usual store and would not let me scan my card until it upgraded last time wasting time ordering and holding up the line because I couldn’t open it until it upgraded. Most frustratingly it took my points and didn’t give me my free drink. This is so poorly designed and rolled out. I don’t need an app just so you can steal my data and try to market me things. A card was fine. Time to find an app-less bubble tea franchise now. If I could give negative stars I would. You have lost a customer who spends nearly $3k a year on bubble tea. And from the reviews I’m not the only one. Enjoy.
