I’ve been playing games for a long time now, and this little gem, especially for the price, is worth the money. 300 monsters and nice environment artwork makes it worth picking up. So far I have just under 10 monsters after a few hours of playing, and I’m not impressed by the number of my mons that don’t have a 3rd stage, but there are a lot more to collect. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised later? I did want to note that they did things with the environments in this game that I, personally, haven’t seen in other 2D games… particularly rooms divided with side doors. I know it doesn’t seem like much, but usually you’ll just see one big room, and separated rooms with little door frames going up. It was a nice touch that I particularly appreciated.
I remember playing Evocreo 1 over and over again years ago and then tracking the progress of Evocreo 2 so to see the game finally release and to play it for the first time just feels so nostalgic. That being said I’m enjoying the storyline and enjoying the world so far but it’s hard to get over how slow the main character moves. I’m not too far into the game so this’ll probably get rectified later on but in the early game it’s excruciating to move so slow. I feel like the game needs a lot of refinement in the menu system and a bit of polishing on the battle system. I personally like the old menu system design more and it’s sort of frustrating not being able to change creo mid battle after defeating one of the enemies creo. Besides that it’s hard to find many other criticisms. Maybe more detailed sprites would be nice for the creo you use in battle, but I’m enjoying the game so far. UPDATE: After playing a bit more and getting further into the story the amount of bugs this game has becomes more and more apparent. A lot of them are avoidable by simply saving and leaving the game however some of them are detrimental to gameplay. There are a few perks that quite simply don’t do what they’re supposed to, becoming a waste of skill points. The prestige perk that’s supposed to raise a creo’s rank after you capture it doesn’t activate anytime I capture a creo. Similarly, the recover perk that’s supposed to fully recover a creo’s health after you capture it doesn’t activate and leaves me having to go back and forth to reheat creo center. It’s a tad bit frustrating, but overall I’m still enjoying myself very much.
So far I’ve been enjoying this game and having a blast but I had to write this down because I’ve been having some issues with the blue skill tree path including the Accomplished Evoker skill which causes the game to get softlocked when catching creos. Some of the skills in the blue tree path don’t seem to be working at all. The Recover skill isn’t fully healing captured creos. The Prestige skill isn’t adding a bonus rank to captured creos. And the final skill Accomplished Evoker is causing the game to get soft locked whenever I try to use a link to catch a Creo. Every time I use any of the links to catch a Creo, Nothing Happens, it doesn’t show or play the animation of trying to catch a Creo, The game just stays stuck in a softlock and I can’t do anything else. I tried restarting the app to see if that fixed it and tried catching a creo again but it still keeps getting softlocked with the Accomplished Evoker skill every time I use a link to catch a Creo. I really hope this gets fixed soon including the other skills cause it is preventing me to catch other creos when I have the Accomplished Evoker skill on and I honestly don’t want to reset my skills and change it to something else and then change it back again.
