Escape Game TORIKAGO

Now that the lag issue has been fixed I was able to play the game, and it's great! This developer is fantastic at constructing puzzles and distributing items in a satisfactory way so you explore the house as a whole thing rather than as a series of rooms. The music is gorgeous too.To the developer: In my review for Labyrinth (which I did a couple days ago), I said the textures looked a little low res, but I realized with this game that I was wrong, there are some fantastically detailed textures to items. What was bugging me about the designs was the shadows. (Btw this is an incredibly specific nitpick that I'm just picking up on because I eventually want to make an escape game, it doesn't at all take away from the game and it's greatness at all.) Based on the level of detail and care that went into the 3D modeling, texturing, and puzzle making, I get the sense that you are looking to portray semi-realism with your settings, and the only part that throws it off is the shadows. If you can put light sources in the rooms that are on and cast shadows, it might make it easier to achieve. Big things especially like the TV or cabinets, when they don't cast any shadow it makes things look almost uncanny. When it comes to the story, I think you would benefit greatly from incorporating it more into the game play rather than just putting it at the beginning and end. You do some amazing beautiful prose, and the story behind your works is very interesting, but it gets lost when Elein is only a character at the beginning and ends. LIST does this better, there are many more instances of storytelling throughout the gameplay via character thoughts and notebooks left around, but it could still be ramped up a lot more, especially in the smaller moments.Either way, awesome work!

Toward the end of the game I could only go down the ladder from the roof. I grabbed the keycard but apparently there’s nowhere you can click on the roof to step back onto the roof. Finally figured out you step onto the roof by hitting the backward button. Makes no sense. Otherwise it’s hard (I like) but tedious with a few too many doors that look the same, and key after key after key…. I’d rather open doors with puzzles like a lot of games do. Still it provided several hours of entertainment for free, and this developer is thorough on hint front. (One of their other games has a menu of 329 hints.) I don’t mind the ads. No worse than other games.

Not only is this game BY FAR my favorite by this developer, it’s one of the best escape games in the App Store right now. I remember I downloaded this game quite a while back, and I didn’t give it a chance. I got about 4 minutes in and decided to delete it. I can’t tell you how glad I am that I decided to give it another try. The puzzles are PERFECT. They aren’t frustratingly hard, nor are they boringly easy. The game is also longer than most of its kind. It’s hard to believe that this is a free game. I can’t wait to see what other gems are released by this developer, because if this is an example of what is to come, they’ve got a life-long fan in me. Keep em, coming please!
