I downloaded this app as the Daily Mail website became so inundated with glitches and bugs. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the app was just as bad as the website. I have had multiple instances of being redirected to advertisements that I was scrolling past while reading articles, stories that will not load, and many times I can't even access the app at all. The most annoying glitch I have noticed, however, is that my comments will not post. This is not due to my comments going against the house rules, but because of a "technical issue" according to Daily Mail. I have contacted Daily Mail multiple times about the app not posting my comments. To my dismay, every time I attempt to speak to a customer service rep, I am connected to a rep by the name of "Jordan" who I now know is an AI assistant. "Jordan" always tells me that it's an unfortunate bug, however, doesn't give me any information on how to fix it. This issue seemed to get worse after I updated the app, shocker. This glitch is especially annoying as it has also made it impossible for me to flag inappropriate comments as well. It is incredibly frustrating when I can't post a comment that abides by the house rules, yet I read terribly inappropriate comments from other DM users that I am not permitted to flag. I have made sure that my account is active and I don't have any restrictions on it either and I still can't post comments, sadly Daily Mail doesn't seem to be concerned about this issue.
I’ve played extremely janky games that don’t slow down or crash as much as this app does. I have used this app for hundreds of hours for years on an iPad Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and my new iPhone 15 Pro Max - and it has issues on all of them. On my 11 Pro Max it got to be so bad that I could feel the phone heating up to where it would almost burn my hand if I didn’t have a case on it. It didn’t use to be that way, but over the last six months that’s been happening. I have never had any app do that, and I’ve played some very intense FPS games on the 11 Pro Max. My iPad Pro doesn’t ever heat up because of this app, but it has the most issues with the app overall. App issues: slow loading on startup, slow updating of news articles, slow navigation in and out of articles, slow or freezing in comments sections (and there are two different types of comment sections: one older style and one newer style - Daily Mail is dumb for not choosing one or the other and making a permanent change). The newer comment section you can change your up/down arrow vote if you choose the wrong one accidentally, but otherwise I tend to get stuck in the comment section and can’t back out of it in the new one. I know I can’t be the only one experiencing all of these issues. Random crashing is frequent too. If you really insist on supporting this “news media organization” by viewing the articles, just use a browser to access their website: it’s faster and doesn’t really crash, but you’ll have to put up with more ads. Daily Mail’s writing is atrocious, the app is terrible, and I think the articles are designed to stir up social discontent. However, they also have some bizarre and unique stories and are often the first to break important news. Good luck if you use this app and fill your mind with its stories.
So, I had never even seen the daily mail prior to downloading the app. I downloaded all the news apps I could find. I wanted to see what had interesting content as well as informative. Daily mail is now my go to news site because they have the political news mixed with the salacious news stories you cannot find anywhere else. All the stories are highly, highly detailed and comprehensive often with videos and always with probably more pictures than you need, although I appreciate them as they help to put you inside the story. This might be my second online review. I wish I didn’t like the daily mail and it was the Wall Street journal I liked better so I sound more sophisticated, but not so... anyway. Just go to the website, check out both the UK and Us sections... oh and us citizens, vote in Nov (regardless of your political leaning go vote).
