This is a good tool- it is just a tool though. I noticed it was setting my calories too low after my first week and I hadn’t dropped weight, which is fine because it was literally my first week tracking officially. It was around the time before my period, so weight gain and water weight is expected. I wish it took into account or had the option to track cycles (I didn’t see anything that had that). I ended up overriding it every time and setting my calories and macros to what I know is a deficit. I also have noticed some clothes are fitting looser than before, but the scale is the same. Data-wise Carbon looks at weight only, which is why I manually adjusted it. When I start seeing progress on the scale, I’ll let Carbon dictate my macros. For now, I have to override everything. I also add 100 calories or so when it’s my time of the month. If you know your calories are too low, adjust them. Carbon is a tool and it’s going off of your weigh ins- it doesn’t take into account the multitude of factors that can occur and that’s okay. It’s just an app, it’s not magic- so I would never expect it to do that. It’s a good app, pretty easy to log. A little hard to log when it’s a recipe with multiple components. I like the check ins and that it does hold you accountable. I am not always consistent with my macros and calories but I’m getting the hang of it after a few weeks. It would also be nice if it had a recipe section (I know it has recipes you can add, but like actual recipes would be cool)
I’ve struggled the last few years with trying to lose weight and get in shape. I’ve tried countless plans and programs only to stick with them for a couple weeks, not see instant progress, and then give up. I’d read something about this or that system and think, “Aha! This is what will finally work!” I was making things way too complicated and not taking a good, honest look at my lifestyle. I was blaming all these plans for me not succeeding. I was blaming my slow metabolism or my hormones. I read about Carbon on Instagram and decided to give it a try. Something clicked. I don’t know if it is because Carbon is pretty simple and straightforward and therefore doesn’t cloud my brain with all kinds of crazy misinformation. I don’t know if it is because it really makes you aware that your success or failure is in your own hands, nobody else’s. I don’t know if it is because it gives you the flexibility to stick with it while still allowing you to enjoy food that you love. Whatever it is, it has kept me moving in the right direction for six weeks, which is the longest I’ve stuck with something in a long time. Carbon tells you what to do but doesn’t do the hard work for you. There’s no magic pill or fast track to reaching your goals. You still have to flex that willpower muscle. Sometimes it’s really challenging and sometimes you may not be happy about the changes that Carbon makes to your macros. But as long as you trust the process and appreciate that slow and steady wins the race, Carbon will absolutely help you reach your goals.
I have struggled with weight my entire life. There is so much misleading information in the health and fitness industry and a lot of it led me to disordered eating, big weight fluctuations and feeling defeated. Several years ago I discovered Layne Norton online and his honest information is what I needed to really understand nutrition and to see through all of the lies in the industry. When I heard he was behind the Carbon Diet Coach app, I was really excited to try it. I have used the app for a month now and have seen better weight loss results than I have ever seen before. Not only are the results there, I’m not super hungry and grumpy like on other meal plans. It is super easy to use and the coach feature is just like a real coach telling me each week what my calories and macros need to be at to reach my goal. I love that it adjusts based on my results throughout the week so that it is always keeping me on track to hit my goals. I have already told a lot of people about this app and will continue to highly recommend it. The cost of the app is negligible compared to the value it gives it’s users. I see myself being a long-term user of this app and feel more confident than I ever have that I will finally hit my health goal and maintain the results for the rest of my life. I’m very grateful I found this app and highly recommend it to anybody considering it.
