AutoRap: Music Maker by Smule

This app is pretty good if you pay the $40 for the VIP subscription. If you don’t pay : 1. you will be limited to a few free beats which typically wouldn’t be your first choice. OR 2. You can reply to other VIP members raps sometimes to access cooler beats but... there’s no guarantee they will reply. I gave it a 3 stars mainly because of the several obvious things that are missing that would make this an awesome app. Current problems: 1. NO BLUETOOTH CAPABILITY. Come on guys it’s 2020 and you are a music app with no wireless option? Most cars don’t even come with a auxiliary jack anymore and that is one of the most popular times that people record or listen to old battles. 2. NO PROFILE: No place to type-in your personal rap style, background, or any kind of general profile so followers get learn about what you would like to share about yourself. 3. No hashtags other than the ones they decide for you. 4. Battles are limited to being between two artists 5. No collaboration mode. Should be able to choose to collaborate rather than battle and be able to set the length of each rapper’s section. 6. No private messaging included, all interaction has to take place over a battle. 7. No way to block a particular artist that you don’t wan’t to battle with... they tend to take up your feed and you feel bad that they can still see you are avoiding them. 8. Remixing should allow for you to utilize the scratching feature or slow-mo (chopped and screwed) and record the adjustments to a new track. THE APP IS VIRTUALLY THE SAME THING THAT IT WAS WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT YEARS AGO. DON’T BE LAZY DEVELOPERS. All of the things I mentioned would entice way more people to get a VIP subscription.

I highly recommend NOT downloading this. The advertisements make the app seem interesting, like when I first saw them. This is how my personal experience went: I was bored, had the day off of school, and decided to get on the iPad. I was playing a game of some sort, I’m not really sure which, as it was a few months ago. Whatever game it was, the Auto Rap advertisement showed up on the screen. I thought it looked fun. I happily downloaded it, excited to make a rap with one of the suggested beats on the advertisement. It installed, and I got on right away. I hate singing, and ESPECIALLY other people hearing me sing. So, I thought it might be great since nobody would hear my actual voice. I was hoping to find one of my favorite songs. I tapped on it, and was very disappointed that it costed money. I used the free song, and I wasn’t sure what to say. I said something random, that I can’t even remember, and the beat was extremely short. Disappointed again, I listened to it. It sounded like a weird robot. I wished that all the beats were unlocked, and not just ONE. I showed my brother. He was unimpressed also. To be good at this, you have to purchase the passes, which are very expensive, and actually know how to rap. I think this app is only useful for wasting time when you have absolutely nothing to do (even though, why would you use this app instead of using a different app on your device when you are bored?). This app is a total let down, and, if you ask me, a fail from the smile company.

I've been using this app on and off for a year. It was fun at first, having an app to go to when you were just in the mood to sing or rap and have fun with other people, now it's just a waste of storage. Firstly, the "earn free plays" button hasn't been working for idk how long, so the only way you can even make a song of your own is to pay 2.99 a week. 8 outta 10 songs you make will be off beat AFTER you upload and share it. It sounds fine when you make it and listen to it back the first time, but as soon as you share it and listen to it again, something happens with the beat and it throws all the rhythm and flow you had out of the window, makes it sound like you've never heard music before in your life. The top charts are flooded with 10 year old kids talking on a pop instrumental with the horrible smule version of auto tune. It's so bad you can't even understand what's being said in the song. Not to mention 75% of the beats are pop beats like Brittany spears and Selena Gomez and other non-rap artists like that. Why even call it auto rap? It's closer to auto pop. This app has greeeeat potential, but it's blatantly obviously smule couldn't care less. It's not worth 2.99 a year so how anyone could pay 2.99 a week is mind boggling. This app will be dead by next year without a doubt at this rate. Save yourself some time and effort AND MONEY and don't even bother downloading this garbage, there's other apps like this out there that are waaaay better.
