Ive done about 65 jobs for these people. At the time, I was in desperate need and got lucky they just so happened to be posting jobs in NYC area. Here is my issue, these people will send you anywhere! It does not matter to them whether the airspace is restricted or not, in fact they do not check. They actually leave it up to the pilot to find out himself and potentially get in trouble. Never received a permit for any site. why? because a permit cost $150 and these guys pay $50 to $150 per job if you’re lucky. Here is the second biggest problem.. insurance companies hire these people to secretly take photos! This one almost got me arrested! They sent me to a ladies house on private property to take photos, this lady came out yelling threatening to call the cops on me! And im like “mam im the pilot from Dronebase! (Which was the base at the time) she was very confused, made me delete all the photos and told me get off the property asap. One time i emailed them about nee drone laws in nyc.. that was the last job I ever got 😂😭😂😭😂. You cannot be aware or question when working for dronebase they will block you. Worst company I ever worked for. Very nice app, very unique business for my area. But terrible experience. I will never go back
The app is pretty cool, however the procedure they have started following is horrible. They pushed a mission out for $140, after I accepted the mission, it changed to $70 and changed the fly time. I had reached out to them about the difference and they said it was a “technical error” meaning they messed up. I was still willing to do the mission but had requested it have the original date. They confirmed that the mission got rescheduled to the original date. I had to drive 45 min to do the mission. When I went to “check in” for the mission it wasn’t there in the app, but since they said they were having “technical difficulties” I had figured something was wrong, and continued to fly. I should mention I did reach out to them about the mission not being in the app anymore before flying and they didn’t respond, so since I had the location and shot list, I flew it. Come to find out, they had cancelled the mission without notifying me, and when I finally got a hold of them, they tried to putting it all back on me. Once I showed them all the email proof that they confirmed the mission for me and there was no correspondence about it being cancelled they stopped replying and did t pay me anything for the travel. Honestly I get drone jobs by myself as much as they put out, and I charge around $250 for the same jobs these guys are paying $70 for. If you’re really needing money, or just doing it as a hobby, it’s great, but if you want to make some money, honestly just post on social you do drone work, and you can triple you’re income and cut out the middle man.
First I would like to say that the app functions as advertised. You can get bid requests for drone jobs and they do pay for them if completed as requested. Now the company on the other hand that runs it. I don’t know about. I’ve had my time wasted on more than one occasion. Early on when I didn’t know what I was getting into I accepted a bid for a site 30 minutes from home base. After accepting it I realized that the $70 they were going to pay was not going to cover the 11 football field size buildings they wanted roof aerials and facia they wanted pictures of. After an hours there and 3 buildings done I responded that I could not get it done. I was removed from the job and not compensated for the time or pictures I did get. More recently they gave me a site contact that no longer worked for the company. I was then denied access to the site. I’m guessing that my time won’t be paid for their mistake there either. They also consistently ask me to do work for sites that are outside of my area. Some 100 miles away for $70. Downloader beware. Their advertising to get drone pilots is not what it seems.
