White Balance Kelvin Meter

Dude this app is extremely useful and quick if you want to check the color accuracy white balance of your television.I own a TV that really runs cold. Skin tones looked magenta. I don’t have the money or resources to get my TV professionally calibrated, so I adjusted the white balance of the TV myself until it perfectly matched the standard 6500K. Before it was 7500K. I have a professional OLED monitor that is VERY color accurate out of the box, and now there is absolutely no discernible difference between the TV and reference monitor in terms of accurate colors. This app is incredibly useful. One star has been knocked off because the app locks you out completely after 14 days if you don’t give them money. But at least if you DO give them money, you get what you pay for.

So I tested this app against using the custom white balance setting in my canon R5 II, using a white piece of paper in the exact same lighting. I shot a short video clip of that white paper using the two different white balance settings from each. Brought those into my editing software and compared them on a vector scope. This Kelvin app gave me a white balance setting of 2900. I could not believe how accurate the white balance was using the app compared to my camera on the vector scope. My Canon camera had a pretty strong magenta and yellow shift. I had to go -10 on the temperature slider and -7 towards green on tint to get it to look almost as accurate as this Kelvin app.

I struggled to find an intuitive and well designed White Balance Kevin Meter. Either they didn’t work, wouldn’t scale properly for my screen size or lacked a camera preview window, to be 100% sure if what readings I was really taking. (What was the camera actually aimed at?). This app checks all the boxes of elegant, fast, scalable, accurate and highly intuitive. The only challenge I had was not fully understanding the need to use a piece of paper to sample the reflected light from - and came to see that using a piece of paper either as a diffuser (hold over lens) or as a reflective surface to be used with one’s light source, balances out the readings very nicely. I’m not a Photographer, but wanted to measure the Light Temperature of some very obnoxious Street Lights which are well over 5,000 Kelvin - far above the AMA’s guideline of them being under 3,000 Kelvin (even lower is better 2,200 to 2,700 even). The Developer couldn’t be better. Super kind, responsive and skilled. Very satisfied and highly recommend this effective and elegant app!
