Bass guitar player. Learned by ear. Girlfriend’s daughter is just starting out on the violin. Whoever they have tuning these violins is… well, they are bad. I could hear it instantly how off every string was. Between this app (which worked best), three other apps, an e-bow, a trip to the guitar store, and my own personal expertise, her violin was wound WAY too tight by the teacher. EADG for my bass right? GDAE for her violin. 3/4. Not only did the strings instantly snap when even the slightest attempt to tune was made, but the sound was unbearable. When I restrung the violin, I used THIS app. Didn’t take more than a few minutes. Almost as fast as I can do my bass, but I have been doing that by ear for 25 years. I highly recommend you use this app and here after I finish this review, I am going to donate to the programmers… because it is free! Job well done. Thank You for making it free too. Look for my contribution.
It took me a few tries to appreciate the full ranges of options available, but once I realized it is a tone generator; an extremely accurate chromatic tuner (focussed upon violin string pitch and giving the exact frequency of the chosen string); a very clear display (even from a distance; and also a metronome… I was quite impressed. There are options to change language and to change reference tuning as well. Very sophisticated. A simple and very useable package of tools.
I have been learning the violin for over 2 years, And not once have I stumbled across an app which is so capable, organized, and just overall accurate. This blew my mind away. Plus, it’s free. None of that dumb subscription or monthly pay fee kinda thing. Free. Best thing ever. Very proud of the team who designed this. Excellent. 5/5 stars. Would definitely recommend.
