Simply Tuner - Violin, Cello

This app is very nice and helpful when I’m tuning my violin. You can also tune cello and viola which I think is cool. And if you’re a beginner it will tell you if you need to tighten or loosen the string, the only reason I did not get this app a five star rating is because I think it is annoying that you have to tap a different button for each string. For example, on the violin there’s an E,A,D, and G string so every time I try to tune a different string I will have to put my violin down and push the button, which is time consuming, but overall the great app it’s perfect for traveling if you forgot your tuner , so that’s why I gave it four stars

I am a strings teacher at a private school and I love that I can share this app with parents! One of the biggest challenges we have as strings teachers in a school setting is how to help parents and students tune their instruments at home. More conventional tuners show the pitch, but students and parents who are new to stringed instruments cannot recognize when a string is more than one whole tone (or even a half tone) out of tune, let alone in what direction (flat or sharp) so those tuners are useless if the person tuning does not know when the string in question needs to be adjusted up or down to go to the right pitch, specifically the right pitch IN THE RIGHT OCTAVE. Simply Tuner does this very clearly visually, and by locking into the specific string also avoids the issue of going to the wrong octave. This app gets five starts from me and all the parents I’ve shared it with!

During this Pandemic, you can’t really go to go to your teacher or person who normally tunes your violin/viola/cello. Me who’s WAS in this situation downloaded this app and this really helps!!! If I need to tune my violin this app is always there (unless my phone died). Sadly this doesn’t work with Bass/Double Bass, so Simply Tuner, please add a Bass/Double Bass for those string players. This also helps with beginners for now and also gives them tuning experience and they can use this when ever who normally does it for them isn’t around. The other downside is that you will want to rely on it too much because what if your phone/iPad died and that person who tunes your instrument isn’t around, then that’s a problem. But ending in a high note, this really helps you!!! 😁
