1. The inability to turn off shading effects is a problem. I’d like to actually be able to see the color I chose, but I can’t because you are coloring everything and I can’t turn it off. My cabinets are 50 shades of gray, which one is the color I picked? 2. Walkthrough mode. Useful but if you use this app for any length of time, you will find that you have magically entered walkthrough mode because even too-fast clicks on the back button will enable it. This also cannot be turned off. 3. Bull nose on everything without any option, even open shelves you are trying to create. 4. I recommend you lock everything. You will destroy your design without it. But, you can’t view details on locked items. Why? 5. Height above floor. My upper cabinets default to 61”. Is this because I have higher ceilings? 54-56” from the floor is recommended. Can I change a setting somewhere so I don’t have to change it every time? No. Some items that are often placed on a counter also default to 30”. 6. Apply to all, undo one at a time? Could be better. 7. Rotation. There really needs to be a way to lock to 90 degrees. How often do you rotate in lesser angles. I haven’t — even once. 8. Photos. I have hundreds all in neutral colors. It is impossible to tell them apart. Some sort of tagging or categorization would really help. 9. Need a lot more tile, granite, marble and quartz options. I don’t think there are any quartz options. Silestone anyone? Getting reasonable sample photos is one of the hardest things. There are many things I like which is why I haven’t given up, but I am looking for a better program for these reasons. Thanks.
I have been using the app for a while and really liked it for quick design renders that do not need detail accuracy or a layout plan. I am really disappointed with some of the new changes. In their effort to address double wall issues when users misalign room walls by forcing rooms to snap tight to another room, I now can not create rooms with geometry outside of right or 45 degree angles. Changing room sizes after they have been connected means a room that I have already adjusted to the right dimensions are changed dynamically when I make changes to another room. It is so frustrating that I ended my subscription. To top it off, the previews and the renders I had accumulated and paid for have been removed once my subscription ended. Their free renders perk works outside of their subscription model and seems to have no issues keeping track of previews and renders when not part of their active subscriptions, so why would is it an issue to maintain the renders and previews I have already paid and allow me to use them up. I would even accept a grace period but just taking them away definitely does not make me more open to try them again if they make future changes that address the above.
Watched the tutorial 3 times and was on my way (a familiarity with computers not necessary but helpful with this program). Created a room with accurate dimensions and started placing items in less than one hour. Small learning curve. There's more than one way to adjust sizing, which is very helpful, especially for small items. Starts out a little "clunky" to use but gets easier as you become familiar with accessing the options. Once you get going, you realize how limited the Object & Material selections are. Not nearly enough kitchen cabinet variations. Flooring should also be updated. Has been a great help in visualizing my kitchen plans. Love the ability to do a virtual walk-thru. Will use it for other room redesigns. Glad I invested the time and $10. 8/9/17 Update - Been working with the app for about a week and increasing the review to 5 stars. There were more Objects and Materials than first realized (app should still be upgraded to include ceiling fans, toaster ovens, and other items - though with what is provided you can improvise). Brought my iPad to a Kitchen Design meeting and my plans greatly assisted with getting to the point of what I'm looking to achieve. Allowed me beforehand to work with different designs and narrow down my likes and dislikes. Such an enjoyable tool that I've expanded from kitchen to designing the rest of the house, including outdoor landscaping. Great app if you set aside a little time and patience to get used to working with it.
