The app is amazing. Itโs responsive and seems precise. Iโm not a geologist so Iโm learning a new language. A rock is not just quartz but of a certain era, location and of a group all of which is deep information which is new to me and I very much enjoy the granular detail o puns intended. However I cannot sign up as the page jumps all over and will not let me go beyond entering my first name and then it jumps from the signup page to the login page. Probably a โfeatureโ of a recent update. Please fix this as I think this app has great features but would like to join in. Would be more stars if I could login. Would also be much better if I could highlight a word or phrase to connect with the web to learn a definition or more information.
I was told about this app by a friend thatโs a geologist. He suggested using it when Iโm out in the field for botanical surveys as a easy reference for local formations. Works fantastic when in cellular range, but the downloadable maps for when Iโm out of a service area (which is almost every time) absolutely does not work. Iโve essentially had to screen shot the area and reference those to my GPS which is extremely hard. The All Trails app has that function and it works flawlessly. If the creators of this app got it working, Iโd happily pay whatever subscription fee they would require to use it. All-in-all, itโs a fun app to use when youโre in cellular service, but do NOT depend on it for real-world applications.
I downloaded this when it first came out, and while it was fun right out of the gates, it was pretty clunky with much room for improvement. Well, the developers have heard the feedback and consistently added new features and are always fixing small bugs to make this the best (and only) โgeological social mediaโ app available! Anyone from a casual rockhound to a geology student (which I was when I first started using it, now have my B.Sc.) to PhD researchers can use this, and every checkin added by users helps supplement the amazing amount of data already built into the app. I love the recent additions of paleomaps, the ability to click through to linked literature in professional journals, and the interaction with other rock nerds! I look forward to whatever is coming next, but at the moment this app is top-notch and I struggle to recommend any new features or fixes.
