Apple Watch app doesn’t work. News feed stories almost all don’t load because they don’t know how to maintain a website. Starting to feel relieved that I didn’t go all-in on their hardware and just have the one helmet. Initially wrote this as a one star review, but the app on the phone at least does the bare minimum of allowing light settings to be changed. Doesn’t alert me when the helmet battery is low though (it’s always a surprise when it dies mid-ride at night), or the remote battery (guess I did get more than just the helmet, dang, but at least I didn’t spring for the Fireflies). Been using a bike share network a lot lately and sure wish the Apple Watch integration that they were advertising when I bought the helmet worked.
I have the kickstart helmet. It’s great. Very visible. A few gripes though: the app used to offer a push notification of battery percentage whenever it’s turned off. That feature never seemed to work and now it’s not even offered in the app. Also, it looks like the app allows you to adjust the brightness of some helmets, but it doesn’t seem to work with the kickstart - it would be great to have this option. Finally, it would be wonderful to be able to adjust the beep volume - especially at night, it feels like everyone on the road can hear my turning beep, not just me. Other than these few points, it’s a great helmet and app.
I have been using the Lumos helmet since the Kickstart version and now use the Matrix. The app has evolved with the helmet quite nicely. As the helmet is so customizable, the app intuitively works to help the user maximize its features. I look forward to more customization options. My friends who see me during my commute say the new helmet is even better that the original for brightness and visibility- which helps me to have more confidence for nighttime riding through the dark winter months.
