Pocket Thai Master

I bought this when I wanted to learn a bit of Thai to speak with my uncle and cousins more easily. I’m still learning and need to be more diligent with my practice, but this app has been an amazing study guide. The content is both clear and thorough. I like the cultural and historical context as well as the mnemonics for learning characters. i look forward to practicing and improving!

I’m just getting started learning Thai, and this app, despite its modest trappings, has proven to be easily the most instructive, well structured, systematic, consistent, and humane approach I’ve found (short of soliciting training from actual live teachers, which I haven’t done yet). The developer clearly put a lot of love and thought into this, and has a clear knack for structuring the learning process in a way where the systems and rules of thai are laid out consistently, and explained with both clarity and precision. The transcription system used here also makes more sense to me than any of the others i’ve encountered so far (some of the others really bear no resemblance to how the words actually sound in Thai as far as i’m concerned!). On top of all this, the conversational tone of the app and sequential nature has really accelerated the learning process for me, and the supplementary educational elements concerning Thai customs, history, and other points of context show that the developer really understands that learning a new language is really inseparable from encountering a complete culture. All of this has been very welcome for me and has accelerated my learning process. I don’t normally write reviews when prompted by an app, but this one was very polite in making its request. This app is not only a clear labor of love but also simply the best I’ve found so far for helping me learn Thai.
