OUTLANDER PHEV Remote Ctrl

I bought a pre-owned 2018 Outlander PHEV and couldn’t locate the SSID. I also own a BMW i3 and Toyota Prius Prime, and love the connectivity of their apps, so I contacted my dealership to get my SSID and had to pay them $139 to have them connect the computer provide it to me. What a complete waste of money. This app is useless. With my other apps, I can connect to my vehicle remotely within seconds to check on the charging status or to start my vehicle with climate controls. I live in the North, so this is definitely nice in cold winters. I can do this from miles away on my other apps (when parked at large buildings, when I land at the airport, etc). The WiFi connectivity is a horrible concept, and doesn’t even work as intended. You have to be very close to the vehicle for it to work, which defeats the purpose. You also can’t use your phone for anything else while connected, so you have to change the settings back and forth to check on your charging status. I hope they improve this in the next generation, or this will be my very first and very last Mitsubishi.

The WIFI connectivity has issues. The car can be parked in my garage and still not connect. Unless I literally walk up to the car. By this time u might as well just use the the key to get into the car. The idea of the APP is good but execution is poor. Mitsubishi needs to look at what Chevy is doing with the Onstar, or Tesla connectivity excellence, or BMW is doing with BMW connect, or Audi, or Mercedes Benz, Ford, etc. I am pretty sure, the connectivity can be improved, if Mitsubishi puts forth the effort to look at rival systems. My recommendations is to use Tesla as the bench mark for this connectivity issue and to improve the phev 2 app. Add features that allow u to start the car, and reverse out of tight spots, and connect via even cellular connectivity and not just rely on WiFi.

As it says in the title but this is for the app and not for the overall operation of the vehicle. Let me get this right....you give me a fob to operate the door locks, hatch, and even charging functions yet i need to get my phone out to use “remote start”!? Even at that, like most have said, you have to be so close that its useless. Furthermore, if your at home and have great wifi strength like I do, I have to disconnect from my home wifi to connect to the car and even then I have to be standing as close as possible while still inside due to the strength of not only my wifi but others around the neighborhood. Add to that, most phones wont accept normal gloves in cold weather so means I need to unglove take my phone out in the cold and fumble w it, when a key fob just simply press the button. I have a 16 cherokee trailhawk- key fob remote starts and with the phone I can do it from anywhere I have reception on my phone. Had a 17 gmc sierra the same way. Traded my 18’ prius prime (phev) for the outlander and it even had key fob remote start. Not sure about phone operation as I only had it 7600mi. Mitsubishi could really take cues from the rest of the market and do a retrofit or something because your remote start for the outlander phev is absolutely pitiful. Not sure if you can at least retrofit a signal booster or a complete remake/reprogram to accept key fob operation but as of now (owned my outlander for 2 days and less than 100mi) I have a $30k+ car that advertises remote start and is a complete failure. I wouldn't be surprised if a group starts a class action or something similar.
