Olive Young used to be fantastic. The Global site has a wider selection and tons of unique products. I was initially so excited when they were starting a US store. Unfortunately, US customers can no longer shop the global site. I’m sure this is fine for people who don’t know any better but for anyone who shopped K beauty well before this, the US version feel almost scammy and purely profit driven rather than skin care/beauty driven. What do I mean? Olive Young US is essentially a re-branded Sephora. There’s nothing unique about it, there are not the exclusive Korean products, and worst of all, we can no longer get authentic Korean sunscreen from them. In fairness, that isn’t entirely their fault in the sense that the USFDA doesn’t have the wide array of recognised sunscreen ingredients Korea does so they reformulated some things for the US market, but that’s also a slap in the face to loyal customers. Why can we no longer shop your global site? This is a joke. Even worse, the prices are utterly ridiculous compared to what they were. This site is definitely targeting the worst type of American consumerism. Do yourself a favour and use direct Korean sites. Olive Young was great while it lasted, but for a US audience, just consider it dead.
I’ve been Gold Olive for years. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on Olive Young Global because they have good deals, great sales, and easy access to Korea exclusive products. The new Olive Young US site is a slap in the face. All I want is US access to OY Global. I do not want to shop the US store. It’s higher prices, worse deals, terrible inventory, and none of the Korea exclusive products or collabs. The cherry on top is doubling the spend requirement for Gold status. It doesn’t matter what they do—if they don’t allow US consumers to access their Global site, I’m never shopping from them again. I’d rather wait two months and pay more at other online retailers out of spite. Olive Young sees their US consumer base as cash cows. Well, I’m mooooving along to other retailers who don’t treat me like a piggy bank. US consumers deserve to have our desires and needs met just like their Korean and Global consumer base. Treating us as lesser because they think they can squeeze more profit from us is disgusting. Honestly if they do allow us to use OY Global again I don’t know if I would use it after this. The more I think about it, the angrier I get at how we’ve been treated and the less I even want to support their brick and mortar stores in Korea when I visit. I don’t think I’ll ever give them another penny ever again after this. Disgusting business practices. I hope they’re happy with their poor decision making and alienating their US consumer base.
I love the option to use Olive Young online after using Yesstyle for multiple years. Each item is a bit more pricey than Yesstyle, but I enjoy the free shipping over $60. However, the app itself is really not user friendly and needs a major improvement. Not to mention the scroll speed and having to rescroll after clicking "load more", the app does not save my log in credentials, which is really common in every app I use (except for TWG app but don't even get me started on that app 🤦♀️). Even if I need to log in every time, swiping out every item I added to my cart after logging in is just.. bad. I can't remember how many times, including now, I decide not to purchase and go for Hanpoom instead after adding 10+ items in cart and see them go away after logging in. I think it's something pretty basic and definitely needs to be changed.
