The Nissan app has to be one of the worst. More often then not, the app fails to work. I’ve had my Leaf for going on 4 years. There was about 6 months or more where the app failed to work. I made multiple calls to Nissan, emails to Nissan and they “tried” to restore functionality & failed. One day it started “working” again. I say that with much sarcasm, working is kinda a joke when it comes to the Nissan app. Today the app is once again failing to function. More often then not it’s worthless. You would think this app, after all these years would be working smooth. There really isn’t much too it. It’s not like it has many useful features. Like every time I use it, they restrict more features to the subscription service. Pay is money or we won’t let you lock your doors. Maybe if that subscription was useful, I’d subscribe to it. Can’t see the status of the car besides a 10° temperature range and the battery level. When the app is working. I don’t know if my widows are up or down, I don’t know if the doors are locked or unlocked, I don’t know if a light was left on. Korum Nissan in Puyallup is a great dealership as far as dealers go. Nissan has proven to be a subpar brand in many ways. I won’t even look at a Nissan when I shop for cars. Maybe if some killer deal jumps out at me, I’d go look but as a brand. Nissan is no longer on my radar. I currently have 4 vehicles, I’ve own 30 at least. Many brands, types, cars, trucks, SUVs. Nissan is ranked at the bottom so far.
App says, “The email address provided is already in our system. Please provide another address.” It was entered correctly. I am the only one on the planet with this address as far as I know. I have had this address since the mid 2,000’s. I have never encountered this before. I have never had any association of any kind with Nissan before. I have never driven a Nissan vehicle before, let alone owned one. This app is dead in the water before it even got started. UPDATE: Turns out, the dealer had registered my email address but neglected to tell me or provide the password. It took a good 30-40 minutes on the phone with customer service to straighten it out, and it wasn’t easy. In the end, I was finally able to reset a password and get signed in. I recommend doing this on a PC, not a mobile device if anyone else encounters this. So far, the app is interesting, but there is a learning curve. I’ve had the car less than a week, and the app has been useful to monitor charging at home. At first, it would fail to update on reopening. Had to sign out and sign back in to make that happen. But now the reload button is doing the job.
The biggest complaint is that the app is very slow to update, whether attempting to get your current state of charge, turning on climate controls, etc. at least a recent update changed the app so opening it will automatically refresh its status, which was a good move. Sadly, you cannot select the color of the Leaf in the app to match your own. Why not? I wish that I could also set up charge schedules from the app. For instance, if I have a charge schedule for 7pm-10pm every day, but want to add more charge outside of those hours, I could either go into the car and disable the timer, or hit “start charging” on the app, but I can’t set a timer within the app. I should be able to select a charge time or percentage from within the app. The widget controls and Apple Watch controls are essentially useless - they take multiple times longer to update and often don’t work.
