Map It Vilas County

I use this app every time I’m in the Northwoods! It’s so fun to be able to explore different trails and communities with each trip. The app is super easy to use and makes me feel much more comfortable trekking into the woods where I’m usually in unfamiliar territory. I get very little reception in the Northwoods so the offline maps are awesome!

I found this app a couple of years ago and used it to try new hiking trails I also use the Gaia app which provided me with miles walked, elevation and more importantly where I was on the trail. After updating the app, I found out that it now shows where you are on the trail. Great feature!!!! I’ve told many people visiting the area about this app. Because it makes them more comfortable on our area trails!

I spent this past weekend up in Vilas County with some friends, running, biking and hiking the trails. Fortunately, I downloaded this app before the trip. We were checking out the Trampers Trail in Sayner-Star Lake and it was pretty rugged going. Awesome trail but due to some recent storms there were some trees down and in spots the trail was a little hard to follow. At one point we were unsure where to go, so I fired up the app. With the app's gps you can see exactly where you are in relation to the trail and cruise through places where the signs are less clear. The app helped us find the trail along the edge of Star Lake, which is the nicest stretch we hiked all weekend (I highly recommend it, it’s beautiful).
