UPDATE: Version 2.0 added every feature I said I’d like to have added to the app. And they did it without mucking up the clean UI and wonderful user experience. The people making this app are reading my mind. — Not only is this the best general-purpose drawing/sketching/writing app for people with iPad Pros, this app is an example of great UX design. Everything works like I’d want it to and expect it to. For example: - Drawing with the pencil and erasing with your finger is great. - Tapping with two fingers to undo is great. - The way zooming and rotating works with two fingers is completely natural. - Being able to reset the zoom/rotation with a quick pinch is great. - Double tapping a layer to hide it is great. - Rearranging layers by holding and dragging is great. - The color selector that gives you various light and darker variations of a hue is great. - There are just enough variations and options in the tools, but not so much that it’s overwhelming. The best compliment I can give this app is that it has not annoyed me or done something that I thought was stupid, ever. And I can, and do, find problems with pretty much everything. I’d like there to be more variations in the paper guides; more dot grids and some simple lined paper options would be nice and could be added without cluttering up the UI. Being able to define your own guides and/or import an image to use as a guide would be amazing. Portrait mode would be nice for when I’m using the app to write. A selection tool to move stuff around would be awesome. I’m pleased that little birdie named Twitter has told me at least some of these additions are coming soon. I seriously love this app.
I downloaded this app because on the web it said that this was an easier version of procreate. It is easier, but there are lots of things that this app needs to have or change. 1: More brushes. There are only like 7 or 8 brushes and that is not enough at least in my opinion. At least put a tab where you can import brushes or make your own. 2: Change canvas color feature. I made an outline with white (because that was the color i needed to draw ripped jeans) and I couldn’t see it AT ALL. I just need a tool that says “change canvas color” so i could change it without having to start COMPLETELY OVER. 3: Change the premium. If you ask me, I would only put “More brushes” and “Import brushes” into the premium. WHY DO YOU HAVE THE TEXT OPTION IN PREMIUM??? The pictures/videos that you make to advertise are just casually using the text feature without saying it’s premium??? I can literally just take a screenshot, import it into ibisPaint and add text for FREE. Please add these thing to your app. Sincerely, someone who wants to use the text feature 😒
Update: This is and will always be my favorite drawing app. I do almost all of my client work in here because it just works the way I expect it to. I forget that I am using an app because it just feels so much like a real sketchbook. over half of my client work is completed using this app because the output matches my style so well. not to mention the addition of layer masking has eliminated the few pain points that I still had with the app. if you’re not using this as an artist my only question is why not?? original review: I am an artist and illustrator and I find that no matter how many different drawing apps I try I always come back to this one. The pencil and blender brush are great and the fact that they finally added text and a watercolor brush make it indispensable for me as an artist. I know subscription fatigue is real but if I really like the app supporting it’s development is ok by me. And it’s is only 99 cents a month … most people spend more on a cup of coffee daily. I know this is an overly glowing review but it truly is one of my favorites.
