I was talking to Someone on the app who was selling a new phone and I offered cash but he wanted a “down payment” of 50$ sent to him on ‘Cashapp’. I asked why and he said because last time he met someone with money in hand the person apparently ran off with the phone from him. So I believed him and i sent him the 50$ and he claimed he never got it yet it sent to him so I sent it again and found out I actually sent 100$. He told me to meet him at a park and once I notified him I was there, he never showed up And didn’t respond for hours. This happens twice after I threaten to call the police on him and file a report. He then didn’t respond to me on letgo and claimed I was scamming him for money yet he never even showed his face or name to me. He refuses to meet with me to do the transaction yet I said I’d let him keep the 100$ if he still met up with me. Annoyingly he never did and ive been left with just being able to report him but not get any return or have him punished. I’ve been using this app for a few years now and have sold and bought a lot of things with no problems and have even ha many family and friends join the app and I am verified. It’s quite upsetting that I have to report this person to the police and his brother for scamming me and never showing up. Please ban them Immediately and have them reported as well thank u so much. I’d really hate to retire from such a good and fun/easy app.
I think the concept of this app is awesome. In my opinion, it comes off as a very safe app. The letgo team gives you accessibility to safety tips when speaking or meeting with a potential/seller. You don’t have to put your full name or your real name, for that matter, into your bio. Of course there are always going to be weirdos and scammers on every buying/selling apps, but you should be able to weed them out the majority of the time. If you can’t when there’s clear signs (i.e. they won’t answer you back, they’re willing to pay above the asking price, the spam you, say that you can just ship the item to them, or ask you to use another app to communicate) then it’s probably not a good idea for you to be buying and selling. 😂 I understand that letgo can’t pick out every single person who is using the app with ill intentions, but they do actually do a great job at moderating accounts and the items they sell. You set your own prices, but letgo can also price the average amount of the item that you’re selling for you. Personally, I think the app is easy to navigate in a way that it is simple to go on your profile and edit item prices and descriptions and searching for a specific category of item you would like to find. I really enjoy this app and have made multiple sales within the 5 days I’ve had it! If you’re wanting to sell that old vase that you’re tired of looking at or even a car, I highly recommend letgo!! 😁
Pros: It’s a good app, pretty easy to browse local or long distance ads for people’s stuff. Categories to narrow the search. The app predicts what you will like based on what you buy or look at most. It’s easy to communicate through the app, and it gives safety advice like suggestions on where to meet when it sees you are planning a meeting. I usually give my cell number once we are meeting, but it’s safest to keep it all on the app for record if possible. Selling on the app is a breeze and there seem to be a lot of active buyers in my mid sized college town..I imagine it’s even better in metro areas or bigger cities. Most of my posts have gotten more response than a Craigslist ad ever got. They have Auto one button convo starters like “Is it still available” making it simple to shop. Free to buy and sell. Cons: The ads look deceivingly similar to posts sometimes so you accidentally get diverted to the web. Worst issue is that the way it’s designed, you can’t avoid accidentally sending the auto responses mentioned in the pros section. You will inadvertently send questions about things you were not interested in as you scroll through the app. A lot of flakey sellers, and no guarantee on product quality. Overall it’s a great app with just a few little flaws that are annoying at worst. But it’s mostly just an open second hand market. It’s a garage sale with pawn shop prices on a web platform basically.
