Read the article the author wrote about building this app. Fun idea. The boys love planes and we are always wondering what is a plane in the sky vs something else like stars or planets when the planes are very high over our home at night.
This app is so much simpler to view than most plane tracking apps as it removes the noise. It keeps it local to the phone and follows the phone’s orientation. Fun app. Thanks!

I loved the blog post you wrote about this and the history behind this app. Looking up to spot airplanes is one of those things I always did when I was a kid and as an adult I find myself still doing it quite often. This app is wonderful for sitting in your backyard and spotting planes as they fly around. The altitude scale of the airplane icons is super helpful too; the bigger the plane is on screen, the bigger it’ll appear to us on the ground! Thanks!!

My 2-year-old daughter recently became obsessed with airplanes.
Every day, she adorably asks me to find her planes in the sky, and she becomes delighted when I locate one for her.
Naturally, like all dads, I took it upon myself to do a bit of DIY.
Aviator is the result:
- Live Aircraft Radar: Track nearby planes in real-time
- Map Overlay: Toggle between the radar view or a detailed local map
- Customisable Colours: Personalize your display with your kid's favourite
- Modern Retro: Marrying cutting-edge graphics shaders and haptics with old-school CRT display and radar beeps
