I’ve tried countless apps, paid for one and was sorely disappointed quickly. If you’re trying to learn Thai and want to start with the alphabet/script (a great place to start) this is the app for you. Don’t rush yourself and feel like you need to get all the words learned immediately. Take your time, familiarize yourself with the script first. I can write in 11 scripts (technically 17, but a few of them are so close it’s misleading to count them as different [i.e., Nubian and Coptic]),and can confirm you WILL learn a language easier if you understand it in its natural written form. But this isn’t just the letters, which it teaches you one-by-one at a pace anyone can understand, this app also includes words and definitions once you move past the letters themselves. I gave it two tries and knew it was going to be a great buy for learning Thai.
The app has really helped me learn the Thai keyboard, the Thai alphabet and Thai phonetics. It is also an excellent way to improve your vocabulary. I have two suggestions, that if implemented, would make this a 5 star rating. First, improve the voice engine, ideally a native speaker, but at least a more natural voice. Secondly, make it possible to turn off the text prompts when typing so you can type just listening to the voice prompts - like dictation.
This app is quite useful for the thai language learner for some instance. It would be better if you put the keyboard layout as the real iPhone interface and also key touch response should be more responsive. The your app will get more useful and faster.
