Push Up Counter: Pushanova

I’ve used a push-up app, in one form or another for 13 years. Prior to this, I used Runtastic Push-ups Adidas pulled the plug and refused to export my data. I have an iPhone 16 Pro. I like this app because it looks decent and was a one-time purchase, but the improved counting accuracy claim is incorrect. Before the update, the app may have missed a rep or two, and that really wasn’t a problem because I can keep track. Now, it’s counting 2 reps for every push-up and that is way more of a problem. As a sanity check, I tested this 8 times, and 2 reps were counted every time. Considering the fact that my schedule is tight and this was unexpected, it cost me a morning workout. I’m going to have to find a more reliable solution. Pushanova engineers, stop trying so hard; the beauty of the push-up is its simplicity. I couldn’t care less about the number of milliseconds that pass between reps. I hate the fact that you presume to automatically end a set after 8 seconds of no reps. In places where push-ups are still used as a fitness test, there is a rest position that can be held for longer than 8 seconds.

The biggest issue I have is that the last rep never ends. This is such a weird design decision I find myself becoming motivated to make my own app. The push-up detection isn’t great and goes off when you get close to your phone not when you push up. But even if the app is pretty goofy and there are much much better ones out there. This is THE ONLY one that doesn’t require you to pay a monthly fee.
