Speed Tracker: GPS Speedometer

The app is good except It needs to automatically start when you start driving, or when it senses you in motion, and automatically stop once you stop driving, once you arrive at your destination. It’s hard to remember to start a trip every time I drive and even harder to remember to end the trip.. I was hoping to use this app as an odometer and to record how much time I spend in the car every week but it just defeats the purpose when i have to remember to turn it on everytime , or when I remember to turn it on once I’m half way to work then forget to turn it off hours later. I just end up having a bunch of 8-9hr trips that aren’t even the correct mileage. Auto start and. Auto stop feature like mileIQ and other similar apps would make the app work like it should. I’ve been paying $2.99 but as it right now I can’t justify it to keep paying.

This app does what it says it will do. I just read a review complaining that some features have been removed from the free version. “Don’t expect me to pay for something I used to have for free...” Really? Do you seriously think that this app did not cost time and money to create and to support? What does it cost? I believe it is four dollars. If you like it, buy it. If you are not willing to pay less the cost of a modest lunch, you are a freeloader and you don’t deserve access to any of the features this app is still offering in the “free” version. Just be grateful that they did not add a popup nag demanding that you buy the app.

I am very disappointed with the Speed Tracker app. On its face it looks good and acts as a speedometer. If for some reason your vehicle does not have a speedometer this will work. However, if need to access any of the information the app “supposedly” records you will be disappointed like myself. According to the developers web site the Speed Tracker app, and I quote “the application and it will automatically record your speed, time, distance, heading, elevation and many more.” If it actually does record anything other than GPS location there is no way to access it. One operation saves your “trip” in some phantom “documents” folder. My iPhone 8+ has no documents folder and I can not find any information from the developer as to where my trip files are held. I was able to “share” my trip data. However, the only information shared was the trip GPS location points. Open that file on a GPS mapping program and all you get is a lot of flagged positions. On the plus side there were a lot of points in my 4.7 mile test run. Open the file in a video editing app that supports G-Metrics (the information the app supposedly records) and you get nothing other than the route map. I emailed the developer looking for answers (as maybe I was doing something wrong) and I received no response. While I can get the information needed via free apps I was hoping that an app designed to actually act as a vehicle trip monitor would be more accurate. While 4.99 does not break the bank this app falls short in value and advertised performance.
