Unless the area is well-lit, or the camera is very close to the object, the image is extremely poor, so do not expect to be able locate objects with this device. I expected to be able to locate items that rolled under my bed, but to do that I need to set up a an additional bright light and at that point I might as well just lie down on the floor and have a look for myself. Perhaps this device has other uses in places that are already well-lit but I can’t think of any at the moment where it wouldn’t be simpler and better to just use the camera on my phone.

I was worried when I saw some of the other reviews but this app does exactly what it’s supposed to do. It also does not ask for any photo permissions, so they must have fixed that. It uses its own picture manager now. This is an app review so reviewing the device here is not the purpose but it’s worth mentioning I am happy with the device as well. It’s true that the device light doesn’t have super long range in the dark but I bought this to see inside small areas and it works great at that. My phone has a USB C port so I don’t have to use the included adapters so I can’t speak to them. I bought the dual lens version and I had to read the paper instructions that came with it to figure out how to switch cameras. Long press the physical button on the camera cord, the one near the light brightness dial. It takes pictures if you tap it and switches cameras if you long press. It would be nice if you could do this from the app too but it works fine doing it from the physical controls.

In my case the phone kept losing connection with the camera while the camera light stayed on. There was a slight movement of the lightning connector in the port. I cleaned the port with a toothpick - there was a tiny bit of lint in one corner, that was enough to cause the connector to not seat completely, causing the connectivity issue. Now the connector plugs in perfectly and the camera stays on, even when moved around.
