Reviews: What People Think About INDIGO A1

Rating: 5/5
My only regret is not discovering the Indigo suite earlier. My only complaint is that the existing documentation expects a level of familiarity that entry-level astro people simply won’t have. If you go in expecting a high learning curve and understanding that you will need to scour discussion forums, manuals, and online errata for all of your equipment (welcome to amateur astronomy!), then you’ll be well prepared to dive in.
One note: This suite *does* include plate solving functionality, but it does *not* include the Astrometry app, which is a *free* download from the Cloudmakers website. If you want to use plate-solving, you will need to download that program and run it in the background while you’re running Indigo A1. Otherwise you’ll get an error that Indigo Astrometry failed to start.
Clear skies!

Can’t say enough. It’s native Mac. It’s a great place to start with astronomy and astrophotography. You can use it to control a camera (DSLR or Astro). You can use it to control a mount. It can guide. The capability is all there, and its utility expands with your astrophotography experience. The way an iPad works with it is amazing. You can connect all your astro hardware directly to your Mac, or you can add a Raspberry Pi server and easily make a WiFi link to your hardware (no more cables). Can’t say enough good things about it. And if all that isn’t enough, the developers pay close attention to requests from users and will develop an update to resolve an issue or add a feature very quickly. It’s actively maintained. Great.

I've been using Cloudmaker software for several years with Mac. Now, A1 has the muliplatform option (both Mac and Ipad) and it works very well controlling all of my equipment from a single app - telescope, camera, focuser, power, etc. 5 stars for a 5 star application!! Highly recommend!!
About INDIGO A1
INDIGO A1 is a versatile graphical user interface designed for use with both external and built-in INDIGO servers. Developed to be truly multiplatform, it is compatible with macOS, iPadOS (operating without the built-in server feature), and iOS (excluding the built-in server functionality and subject to additional limitations). This wide-ranging compatibility ensures that users can manage and interact with the INDIGO server across various devices, enhancing accessibility and user experience in astronomical software management.
The software offers comprehensive control over image capture, guiding, and mount operation, facilitating seamless astronomical photography sessions. With its intuitive interface, users can effortlessly adjust exposure settings, capture multiple frames, and execute precise image stacking for optimal results. It integrates advanced guiding functionalities, enabling users to maintain accurate tracking of celestial objects over extended periods, crucial for capturing long-exposure images. Control over telescope mounts and auxiliary devices such as focusers and filter wheels is streamlined, allowing for precise adjustments and automated sequences tailored to specific imaging goals.
Plate solving capabilities within the software swiftly analyze captured images, accurately identifying celestial objects and providing precise coordinates for precise targeting and framing. Advanced scripting and automation features empower users to create custom workflows and sequences, automating repetitive tasks and maximizing efficiency during imaging sessions.
Real-time monitoring and feedback mechanisms provide users with crucial information on equipment status, guiding accuracy, and imaging progress, enabling timely adjustments for optimal results. Whether deployed on a single computer or in distributed setups across multiple devices, the software synchronizes seamlessly, ensuring consistent performance and data integrity.
Its compatibility with various astrophotography equipment brands and models enhances versatility, catering to the diverse needs of amateur and professional astronomers alike. Regular updates and community-driven support channels ensure ongoing development and enhancement, keeping the software at the forefront of astrophotography technology and meeting the evolving needs of enthusiasts and professionals.
Since version 5.13, the software also supports a macro photography mode that hides all astrophotography-specific features and provides a focus bracketing option.
INDIGO A1 replaces retired INDIGO D1, AstroImager, AstroDSLR, AstroGuider, AstroTelescope, MacroDSLR and INDIGO Server products.
